Wireframe/vector graphics will never age, imo.

Play the original Star Wars arcade game to see what I mean...

Seeing those shots makes me want to play VR again! I loved the PS2 remake at 60 FPS, still very fun to play now.

I don't think it's so much 3D ages faster than 2D. Can you honestly happily player Atari 2600 games etc and say "wow these havn't aged at all!"? The late 16bit and 32bit eras were pretty much the peak of 2D gaming, as focus then moved on, but 2D games had at that point had a far longer lifespan than 3D gaming had which only properly kicked off just before the PS1 launch. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are really the equivilent for 3D visuals of the SNES and Mega Drive for 2D visuals, and I think you'll find the visuals from now on age far slower.

This is obv great, as it means hopefully focus will have to come off visuals and move onto gameplay to differentiate your product from the rest of the market.

Another reason 2D gaming has aged slower though, is because there has been far less progress in that area of gaming, I have to say though, low res 2D games have now appeared to age having played nice crisp high def 2D games on XBLA and PSP 2D titles.

You know, its really not techincal quality of the graphics, its the gameplay, and to a leser extent the atristic asspect.

The original Crash bandicoot is still a great game in my opinion, and Mario 64 will always be a classic, but they both have horrible graphics from a tehcnical standpoint if you compare them to newer 3D platform games

Resident Evil 4 plays well but its not perfect really, even though its one of my favorite games ever im not sure what i will think of it in 10 years, however there are plenty of 3d games', Devil May cry for example, that i feel will still feel very much the same in years to come. simply becuase the gameplay just feels right.

thats my two cents anyway and im sticking too it.
