Considering you're a Sony cynic I wouldn't mind knowing what you think of SotC upscaled. I was on the verge a few months ago in picking up a PS3 if it was up to Halo 1/2 360 BC standards.

In all honesty, I traded my UK LE SotC for a US standard SotC in hope of the PS3 upscaling making the game look better.
But the difference between running on PS3 upscaled to 1080i, running in 480p HDMI on PS3, and running on PS2 over Component is near non-existant.

In fact, I have the PS2 upscaling disabled on my PS3.

hehe, that UK LE wasn't very LE though was it, I saw about 60 in game about a month ago brand new for £9.99 each.

God I'm loving super stardust HD, so simple and fun

The UK had no Limited Edition. The edition with the card cover and art cards was the only edition in the UK.

You may be thinking of Ico which did come in both Standard and Limited Editions with the Limited Edition coming in a similar cover to the UK version of Shadow of The Colossus.

Semantics mate, I just mean it was a digipack w/ the cards!

Anyway, my point was the upscaling did bugger all to improve it :P

Bugger all? You can actually see right? Also PS2 games that have a 480p option do not benefit that much from the PS3's upscaling option. Infact you are prolly best to use the in-game 480p option.
              Kept you waiting, huh?

Gradius IV was indeed rather nice to look at and Treasure games should be treasured I'll hunt that down.

Why Sega ? Why did you not release cosmic smash on PS2

If you liked MGS 3 then I think MGS 3: Subsistance is a good place to go. I have the standard version and I'm looking to get hold of it myself but it seems to go for about ?30-?40 new now!

It also has the online games and the older Metal Gear games. I'm not sure how those emulated games will work if emulated on another emulator on the PS3 though? Anybody tried them?

What about the Metal Slug games? They're cheap at the moment you can't beat a bit of side scrolling Slug!!

There are a few other side strollers I've got too:
Slipheed (Much better than the 3D update), Raiden III, Gunbird and Steel Dragon Ex. Some of these you can get for about ?2 used if you're lucky.

Have you tried FreakOut (Treasure),Under The Skin & Gregory Horror Show? Probably not the best games in the world but they're all a little off center and definately worth giving a go if you can get them cheap.

Quite clearly thanks. Maybe your TV differs to mine, but there is definately much better clarity when letting my TV upscale compared to the console doing it. When the console upscales, it just makes the image softer - I know some people go for that, I hate it.

For people with cheap HDTV's that don't handle 480i very well, I can understand the appeal.

Exactly the same for me! I get far superior picture quality on game like that.

I don't understand this "letting the tv upscale". How do I do this with my TV?, it's a 50" Sony Bravia.

All LCD/Plasma's will be doing this as standard.

Flat Screen Panels like LCD's, Plasmas have 1 resolution - their native resolution. For LCD's, this will be 1366x768 for most people, unless you have a nice 1920x1080 screen.
But the point is, they're fixed resolution, CRT's are not.
Any resolution which is not the native resolution will be internally upscaled/downscaled by the TV. Most people do not know it is doing this, but that's how all flat panel screens work, PC monitors included.

This is why upscaling is overhyped. It's nice if you've got a cheap HDTV which doesn't have a very good internal upscaler, but for most of us, our TV's might do a better job than the PS3 upscaling.

If you give your TV native res from your PC, it's usually pixel perfect sharp.

Ok I think. I'm a bit lost though now. I should turn off the PS3 upscaling? If I do this I only get 480i for PS2 games I think, unless they have a built-in 480p option. At least it says 480i in the info box. I want everything at 1080p if possible, hence me switching the PS3 upscaler to full.

Do whichever you think looks better. Certainly for me, I feel it looks better with the upscaling disabled (it's jaggier, but overall better clarity), but you may have different preferences.

I'm just saying that upscaling isn't going to magically make things look better, it's going to be down to whether you prefer it being upscaled by the TV, or by the console.

Well, it makes a difference if you turn smoothing on though (personal preference) as then iot gives the PS3 more pixels to play with doesn't it?
Personally, I keep it off myself.
