Gamertag or Forumname already taken on PSN ?

I reckon somebody has been munching them all up hoping we'll bung 'em a fiver or something to get 'em back - I think I'll send my alter-ego a message tonight.

I've noticed since getting mine that people mostly have variations of what they would otherwise have used ? JB has UK on the end, bignige couldn't get his, rusty s badge was taken, mine was taken - seems a bit suss.

A lot of people reserved their names prior to the systems release. Lost passwords / people forgetting about that etc might be the reason they're using variants.

I had this one on the XBox about a year after launch. Microsoft somehow managed to do something to the original one which meant that I couldn't use it.

I reserved it before launch on the PS3 and then ended up using it on here.

Maybe some of the people with UK in the name pre-registered the original one an international account or something?

I'm always paranoid about this happening. My usual name is distinctive enough that I'm the only one who'd have it but every time I have to sign up for something big like XBL, PSN, Gmail, etc I'm worried that someone who wants to annoy me has registered it. Thankfully it hasn't happened...yet. I tend to get in there ASAP to make sure it doesn't.

I did that with the person who had taken the tag I wanted. Worse thing is, he's never online, so it doesn't seem he is even using it

My name isn't very original, so it's often already in use (e.g. on Xbox Live). I'm rubbish at coming up with other names though, and thankfully I got VestanPance on PSN

Only problem is, I used VestanPance as my US tag, and got some other decent ones for the HK and Japanese stores, then couldn't come up with anything good for my UK one. D'oh

Just use your US tag as your main one, that's what I do. Although all of my games are US anyway.

Yeah that's what I'm doing, although I changed which tag I was using as my main one a few times, so I have hardly anyone on my friends list now (didn't want to be annoying people with "hey I'm using this tag now", "actually no, I'm going to use this other one" etc...)
