    Space Giraffe

Thought I'd start a thread for this as it's going (or maybe not!) to be a popular title.

So, erm, apparently 2/10 in OXM then...

I think we saw that one coming, the recent playtests of it were all a bit meh.
Good to see Brutal Deluxe's score.
    Get in

I am hoping its a case of the reviewer missing the point somewhat, but 2/10 is not promising at all.

That thread though, blimey. What a reaction.

Well, that yakyak forum (for those that dont know) is actually run by Jeff Minter + his buddies... so you're bound to get quite angry replies to OXM's score on there fun reading... I think Minter is one of the people posting (username: Yak) (my mate tipped me off to that forum, he posts on it a lot)

I've never liked any Minter games even going back to the old days, always found them horrible unplayable messes, plus I could never quite understand why people loved them so much.

you can often see why people like a title you don't get on with but never got it with his stuff, just always looked like freeware or PD bedroom stuff to me.

i could apply a score such as 2/10 to most of his old titles i've played.

after playing it ithat score is a little harsh but it certainly isn't a good game and other people that have played it have told me they were totally underwhelmed as well.

Ooh, you liar. I told you I liked it.

Honestly, if you like T2K, it's hard to see you not liking Space Giraffe. It's not Tempest, and you shouldn't play it like that, but it's clearly an evolution of what Minter did with that game. I expect the reviews will be quite polarized, though, as a lot of people are just not going to get on with it.

Tempest on the Jaguar was has shining moment, all other stuff I played in old days was crap IMHO, so 2/10 is probably right, but I will have a look before passing final judgement.

Hope that review's just a case of one man's poison and all that....

SG is the only Marketplace game I've really been looking forward to & the delay/ anticipation has been a killer. Quite surprised that Minter managed to get his s**t together enough to get it finished though as his recent output hasn't exactly been prolific

There's another preview from an Edge writer up on the Llamasoft blog, which is somewhat more positive.

Sounds much better...guess it may be one of these games that you either do or don't 'get'. 400 points too is nice

Can't believe that guy writes for Edge though as I actually enjoyed reading his piece. It's like a snappy 2 minute punk song rather than one of Edge's typically overblown self-indulgent 10 minute drum solos

I find his stuff a bit hit and miss, personally. T2K is top quality, as is Iridis Alpha, one of the few C64 shooters I still whack on now and then.

Having read the trail, apparently the reviewer hasn't played the game "properly", as his gamer profile shows no achievements and a pathetic leaderboard score. Sounds like a 5-minute "oh no, not more retro ****" review.

But I'll reserve judgement till I've played the demo.

Quite surprised OXM allowed to score a game 2/10, as it's the Official mag and all that.

I've always worked on the basis offical mags will add a good 3 points [out of 10] to any review. Which would give SG a whopping -1!

I'm still looking forward to it, but definitely trial now before I buy.

They gave a game I worked on 1.5/10
