This kind of led on from the thread in the Retro section about your most played games.

Good football games are perfect for multiplayer gaming, so I thought it would be good to share some experiences.

I remember an all night session on Iss Pro Evolution on the PS1 with the brother of one of my mates.

We played 50 straight games of England (him) versus Nigeria (me) throughout the night. He won the the first and last games and I won the 48 in between.

I really did become almost zen-like at that game, never piled quite so much time into any of Pro Evo's since.

SWOS was the same when I was younger. I was considering getting a 360, almost just for SWOS XBLA, but after finding out there were applications to play online on a PC I think I'll stick with that. Just need to find me one of those old school black Amiga joysticks with the yellow buttons to play it with.

I used to work in a shop on Tottenham Court Road many moons ago and we played an awful lot of Kick Off 2. Loved Sensi but at the shop everyone was a KO2 fan. The shop was continually filled with the click of those micro switches on the Comp Pro's.

Pro Evo continues the legacy really.

I could never get into Kick Off 2 really, although that probably had a lot to do with all of my mates only playing SWOS. There wasn't really much of a chance for Kick Off.

I remember playing quite a bit of, I think, Kick Off 3, with my brother It was the one that was a side on view and had those strange shots where if the ball bobbled up in front of you, it was possible to just smash it into the back of the net from miles out. I think the series had started to go downhill by that point though.

Pro Evo has always been the master of football games for awesome multiplayer action.

All my mates love it. It's brilliant when we all get together and arrange a tournament as all of us has their little quirks and skills at the game, so it makes all the games interesting to watch for those not playing. Especially when we put some money into a pot and winner takes all.

Ive got a mate who is awesome at defending on Pro Evo, he never seems to concede and is a master at stopping people playing on it. Shame he's totally crap at finishing.

Another mate who is like the Newcastle of the Keegan years. He will score loads but he concedes just as many, its rare for him not to have a game finish 3-2 or 4-3.

My main problem when playing Pro Evo is I never like to be an obvious team, so I usually end up picking somewhat like Villarreal or Zaragoza, without realising just how slow their strikers are.

I can play well, but it is almost impossible to score with some of these teams as you can't get enough players far enough up the pitch to be a threat.

I could never get into Kick Off 2 really, although that probably had a lot to do with all of my mates only playing SWOS. There wasn't really much of a chance for Kick Off.

Yeah KO2 was where the series peaked. 3 was a completely different game almost. I think a lot of the other versions of KO2 didn't do it justice. You had to play it on the Amiga really. I remember the console versions being quite poor.

Thats the weakness of Pro Evo multi imo. If my boy chooses Chelsea, Barca etc you almost have to choose a team of similar standing to have a good game. I can choose a lesser team and shut him out but thats not a lot of fun.

Thats part of the reason I stopped playing online Pro Evo 6.

Every other game seemed to be against Inter, Barca or Brazil.

I like to mix things up when I play. I went through a period of pick Valencia everytime someone played as Barca. I got quite good at using them to stop Barca playing and sneaking an odd goal with David Villa.
I have more respect for people who can win with a poor side than those you pick a team because of a certain player ie Adriano, who is unstoppable at times.
I played a guy online who picked Charlton, so I though I'll pick someone half decent and see if I can beat him. So I chose Newcastle, who have some decent attacking players. This guy played me off the park, eventually beating me 4-1. I was very impressed by him.

On Pro Evo 3 or 4 I always picked Deportivo, and their players were good enough to beat the best teams everyone else picked, as I knew exactly how to play with them.

Since then I've never really clicked with another lesser team that I have been able to defeat the big teams with. I don't know whether it is because it has become less well balanced as a game, or whether I'm not putting the same time in though.

See, maybe I'm just a odd but I love doing that. I get a great satisfaction from just shutting an opponent out. In the past, during multi-player sessions, my friends generally go for the bigger teams, so to be different I'll pick a mediocre one.

Watching them loose there cool and flip outp because time and time again the fail to score is just awesome. It's hilarious. An then when you do manage to break away for a counter attack (despite the outcome), the sudden panic that strikes them just escalates the tempo of the game.

I've had some very memorable 0-0 victories. =o

Winning Eleven is probably the best multi player title ever.

Best mate's just moved in with his gf round the corner from me and he's always over here. Usually the games are pretty close as he picks Liverpool and I usually go for Juve. However there are occasions when I'll try summat different and pick Chievo, who I'm extremely difficult to score against, or I pick my Bolton team with my 'All out attack 4-1-2-3' that usually means I score half a dozen and he does too.

Can't wait for the new WE to come out now!!!

It was just this Thursday gone that I was up till 3.30am slaying a few mates on Pro Evo 6. The fact the new one is just over a month away means this horrible addiction is going away any time soon.

My fave memory was prolly from WE6.
My mate came over and he had (self-imposed rule) to not leave on a draw. We wanted to finish off with England Italy and we had 5 0-0s on he bounce. Brilliant games with Heskey causing so much grief for me and my play being all about the team. But very well balanced but not a stalemate as such (obviously it actually was). We really enjoyed it and that, for me, is why WE will always be special.
I think the balance is a little messed up with powerful players and get pissed off playing against Ronaldinho who you need to tackle 4/5 times sometimes. Some of the players are way too overpowered and ruins the balance. Too many of the goals I concede there is literally nothing I can d about it as certain players are untackleable. I don'tt think those 0-0s would happen now.
