    Mafia 2

The first game was almost brilliant, but let down by some really difficult driving sections and a number of game crushing bugs. Despite all that, the game was very enjoyable. The cinematics were excellent too, as was the music. Oh, and the intro! Awesome intro.

In-game or proof of concept/cutscene renders? If it's the former, consider me impressed.

I'd guess in game, don't look high enough quality to be renders.

I've just set the large version of the street image as my desktop.

I really enjoyed the original game despite it's occasional bugs, I remember having problems with my ATi graphics card and the cars shadows. I used to like driving around the cityscape.

Highly anticipated sequel to deliver Hollywood movie style action and gameplay

New York, NY - August 21, 2007 - 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), today announced that it will publish Mafia 2, a sequel to the original Mafia title that sold more than two million copies worldwide and helped popularize the gangster genre. Featuring a deep mobster-driven narrative packed with both behind-the-wheel and on-foot action, Mafia 2 is the sequel fans have been clamoring for. The game is being developed by Illusion Softworks, developers of the original Mafia title, for next generation consoles and Games for Windows®.

Like the original Mafia title, Mafia 2 immerses players in the mob underworld of a fictitious late 1940's-early 1950's scenario. Players will easily become engaged in the game's cinematic Hollywood movie experience with strong, believable characters in a living, breathing city. By fusing high octane gunplay with white knuckle driving and an engaging narrative, Mafia 2 looks to be the industry's most compelling Mafia title to date.

"As the original Mafia was a big success, we are excited to leverage the power of next generation console technology to create an all-new experience, while embracing the elements that resonated with the previous game's fans," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K. "The 'wow' factor of Mafia 2 is definitely the benchmark-setting visual quality and action that you expect to see only in Hollywood movies."

Considering it's a 2K game, I wonder if Rockstar have licenced Rage out to Illusion? The street shot seems to have a similar sheen to it that Liberty City's Times Square equivalent did in the screenshots which accompanied GTAIV's first trailer.

                  Prohibition era gaming = Heaven

Just looking at that picture of the streets makes me think of Godfather part 1/ Untouchables. Also the second level from Timesplitters 2. When this sort of environment is done well, for me it can be one of the most immersive gaming experiences.

I didn't get to finish the last level either

By looking at the screenshots the main character looks like t..t..tt.Tommy again, hope so, but having never seen the ending i don't know what happened to his character.

Mafia was a great game, up thier with the best!

The game was too hard for some, including me, but if they iron out those driving parts/races and keep the atmos along with the amazigly fun tommy gun fights....

Take Two has surprised a lot of people by unveiling the sequel to the excellent Mafia during the Game Convention. Here are the first PC images of the game, and if you've known the first PC game, you should agree that it looks absolutely awesome.

Theres an interview with one of the lead designers at 2K Czech (Illusion Softworks) thats been up since the start of the month, no one seems to of posted it though.

GamesRadar+ takes you closer to the games, movies and TV you love.

Some of the new features sound great, especially the police behaviour, really can't come soon enough this, the original for me was probably the best cinematic game of all time.
