Nintendo Wii now home console market leader

I asume that is not counting the PS2 which is still selling quite well and outselling the PS3 in most regions most weeks.

It just goes to show Nintendo is back on form selling half of what the Gamecube managed in just 9 months.

    Wow so close!

I wonder how much the elite and Halo 3 will shift things

Thats madness, I really wouldnt of thought the Wii would catch up so much, is that total sales since the launch of each?

Yup. The wii is selling about 3 times as much as the X360 and PS3 are selling monthly. Watch the distance beteen each console grow respectively.

Also for comparison, here are the PS3 sales:
        Australia: 66,503
        Europe - 1,300,000
        Japan - 1,085,019
        Canada - 84,584
        US - 1,609,000

        TOTAL - 4,145,106

Are those Xbox 360 sales the dodgy Microsoft-supplied numbers where replacements count as sales, I wonder...

No. These are the real console sales, not produced or sold to retail. The reason they've been able to get the total figures is that there are retail trackers which count how many units have sold for investers such as NPD in America.

Hmm. So much for "It'll go the way of the 'Cube"...

Yeah and the Cube is a WAY better machine, I'd have sold the Wii by now if it wasn't for Mario Galaxy coming out.

Why is the Wii selling so well? 90% of the games on it are atrocious. This figure means it's already outsold the Dreamcast.

Selling so well because its appealing to people that wouldn't normally buy a console or that type of console. They have done an amazing thing with it and I take my hats off to Nintendo for that.

But how many AAA games did the Cube have within the first year of its launch? These things take time and we, as seasoned gamers should know this already.

Well I think most hardcore gamers reservations on the Wii is the non-existant 2008 line up. There hasnt been any showing of Animal Crossing, Mario Kart details are few and far-between. Thats it right? (I dont count SSMB because it comes out in two markets this year). I do play it, mainly as a break between PC/360 gaming or when I have friends around who are fairly crap at games but enjoy flailing their arms about on wii sports. The "Blue ocean" dont post here, but they are the reason the wii is doing so well.

Let see... Gamecube's lineup for first 13 months...

                          Luigi's Mansion
                          Wave Race: Blue Storm
                          Pikmin
                          Smash Bros
                          Animal Crossing
                          Animal Leader
                          Doshin the Giant
                          NBA Courtside 2002
                          Super Mario Sunshine
Disney's Mickey Mouse & Magical Mirror
                          Starfox Adventures

11 games. Three N64 ports, two ****ty license games. Notice that console was released 9 months later in Europe than Japan, which resulted in relatively good launch lineup.

For comparsion, Wii's 1st party lineup for first 13 months.

                          Wii Sports
                          Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
                          Excite Truck
                          Eyeshield 21 (japan only)
                          WarioWare: Smooth Moves
                          Wii Play
                          Super Paper Mario
                          Mario Party 8
                          Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
                          Pokémon Battle Revolution
                          Mario Strikers Charged
                          Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
                          Donkey Kong Barrel Blast
                          Battalion Wars II
                          Endless Ocean
                          Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn
                          Super Mario Galaxy
                          Super Smash Bros. Brawl
                          Mario Kart Wii (supposedly january)

19 games. 3 ports, 1 ****ty license game, 4 extended market games. Puts thing into perspective, eh? This is why I often say that NTSC-UK users have very short and selective memory*. Or perhaps it is just nostalgia that makes past look so much better.

                          * In fact, year ago, during X360's worst drought, many posters here hyped Rockstar's Table Tennis as a AAA title. Table Tennis, for god's sake! Of course, nobody remembers that.

Well, except that so called non-gamers only are 10 percent of Wii's userbase. Rest have owned console before. This also means that Nintendo is mainly eating its competitors marketshare, which is really, really bad thing for competitors.
