When I was going through Dead Rising for the first time, I used to play some of the tracks off both of the original "Dawn Of The Dead" OSTs. Ah... good times!

Custom Soundtracks are a wonderful thing - I still think Amped3 with "fly me to the moon" was one of the most ambiently pleasing gaming moments of this gen.

Pendulums album works a treat for Geometry Wars as does "Gran Tourismo Beats" (cheers Phillai).

For killing, I like the screams & gunfire/grenades going off I don't need no music over the top to cover it

Quake 3 was one of the first games I played that let you play your mp3s from ingame. I remember one afternoon of Rocket Arena 3 (a mod for Q3), where we stayed on one map for about 4 hours. The whole time we played though I had one track on repeat and didn't even realise 'til I finished. It was that musical great, Freestyler by the Bomfunk MCs. Or as it became known, Hairstyler by the Bum**** BJs.

Listened to Godspeed You Black Emperor the other night when I was playing Virtua Tennis, which was total freak out city.

Awesome tune - You need to be careful though you could've ruined it for yourself after 4 hours

I've always listened to NIN exclusively when playing games. Ever since discovering them during the Quake era. After the initial Quake I was addicted to online FPS like I am to MMOs now.

It fits in very well with the PvP of WoW also. In the beginning I couldn't have any music on whilst playing as it required so much concentration, now I'm a fireball killing machine I can whack on whatever.

Their ambient stuff used to flow well with FFXI, as did Vangelis' many scores (1492, Voices etc.).

But nah, I always believe in listening to ingame music as that's always been most of the experience for me, ever since the NES days. If a game has **** music I probably won't play it.

Although I have been known to play **** games if they have good soundtracks (this is a rare occurance, as good music in a game usually tells me that an equal amount of effort has been put into the other departments of the game).

                  ---

Arranged soundtracks can really piss me around... take for instance the Final Fantasy orchestral jobbies. I'll take the original Yamaha XG midi synth sounds anyday of the week. Aeris' theme + the world map theme shouldn't be listened to in any other arrangement.

On the other hand you have all the jazzy KoF re-renditions (mainly arranged for CD editions of the AES/MVS carts). Some of those blow me away, mainly the KoFs'97-'99 arrangements with the real guitar samples in. Then you have Iori's jazz tune from Kof'98 which is on another level entirely.

On the NIN theme I used to put the Pretty Hate Machine CD in every time I played Hexen, that brings back memories

I definately agree with Killing in the name of.

Another one I listen to when beating stuff up is usually the Mortal Kombat theme, not just when playing Mortal Kombat tho heh

Nah, the one on the credits is the Disturbed original. Great track though, just like the rest of the album really.
