PSP : Possible case of over ambition?

The PSP is trying to do all of these things. Will it do any of them well?

Quite. Jack of all trades, master of none, maybe?

I think Sony's main concern should be battery life and weight (as Mr. Ono pointed out). Look how the Gameboy pretenders of the early 90s (the Lynx, Game Gear, Nomad, the handheld Turbo Grafix etc) all fell one by one despite their obvious technical superiority.

Again, it's about practicality, not technicality. If Sony can get that right, then its won half the battle.
