Which ports do i need to open?

Guys, which ports do i need to open for my PS3 to work properly with my router?

Ive just bought a new router (NETGEAR DG834PN) and i connect my PS3 wirelessly to it.

With my last router everything worked fine with no messing around but since i bought this new one, the connection is very slow (although i have 100% signal) and ive tried everything to get it to speed up. All i can think of is i need to set up some sort of port forwarding for it to work.

    Any suggestions?

I dont think opening ports will work. If you can connect to the psn network then you have no issue's.

The speed could be down to many things but i have never herd of ports not being open slowing down a connection.

What i would advise is putting the PS3 in DMZ on the router. When in DMZ you have no firewall to negotiate.

    Hope this helps

No you can only put one in DMZ.

You could try these below. Found these by searching google

        ProtocolPort numberAccess?NotesTCP (6)80OutboundStandard HTTP (web browsing)TCP (6)443OutboundHTTPS (secure web browsing)TCP (6)5223OutboundSecure Jabber (for online chat)UDP (17)3478 - 3479Outbound + InboundSTUN (Simple Traversal of UDP through NATs)UDP (17)3658Outbound + InboundPlaystation Network

Best bet will be to enable uPnP on the router and in the network settings for the PS3, that way the router will dynamically handle the port allocation for each device that connects. It didn't work on my old Netgear router (An older DG834G), but on my current router (BE branded Speedtouch) it works just fine.

Just remember you're looking for NAT type 2.

Yeah i know about the NAT type, after many fumblings around with my 360 and the router.

Ive opened those ports that were mentioned previously and enabled UPnP on both, still not working very well.

It connects. Just. then it takes ages to do anything and give me NAT type 3. I think ill just have to keep plugging away.

Its just that me and some of the guys from work decided to have a break from HALO tonight and give Warhawk a crack. Oh well...

If you have a proper Firewall then you could easily use port address translation to give multiple devices the access, but most router based Firewalls don't do this very well, or to any great extent, which is why you end up with the ability to just forward specific ports to one internal IP address.
