I've left out Halo3/COD4 betas as they're not strictly speaking "demos" otherwise they'd have been #1 and #2 obviously

There are better demos (Lost Planet, PGR4, Crackdown etc) but I already knew I wanted those games so they were just something to play untill they came out. These ones I've picked though actually made me buy the full game when I wasn't originally planning to.

Best:

1. F.E.A.R.
2. Tomb Raider: Legend
3. LEGO Star Wars II

Worst:

1. Sonic
2. Quake IV
3. Saints Row

Best:

Crackdown: Made me take notice of a game i would of ignored otherwise which is a demos job great game.

Dead Rising: I actualy enjoyed the demo more than the full game and played it many times. running about the small area racking up kills and experimenting with the weapons was much more fun than the final time based snore a thon.

Lost Planet Good sized demo and a great way to make joe public feel part of the E3 excitment

Sonic painfull in so many ways

Tenchu Z i loved sneaking about in the dark and ziping up to the rooftops of the original but this demo just seemed old and clunky and lacking the atmosphere that made the first so good.

Timeshift poor on so many levels just not gonna even explain myself here as it would take me all day

[Concept]

Best

1. BioShock - a good chunk of the first amazing hour. The most impressive demo since MGS2's tanker.
2. Crackdown - completely sold me on the game when I might have otherwise passed up on it. Screamed fun.
3. Dead Rising - I probably enjoyed it more than the final game. Hugely entertaining.

Worst:

1. Sonic the Hedgehog - atrocious gameplay, camera and collision detection.
2. The Simpsons - as above, but also an awful demo in terms of not allowing the player to settle.
3. Conan - sorry, my mind isn't going back very far. I'm sure there's worse than Conan. It stands out at the moment simply because it's so bland, devoid of personality and cynically made.

Bioshock - I must have completed this demo 20 times in the run up to the release of the full game.

ACME Arsenal (US MP) - Potentially the worst game I have ever seen on the 360 or any console for that matter.... utter ****!

My best are demos are for games I haven't bought but I still go back to. Stuff like the Dead Rising, Lost Planet and Crackdown demos sold me the games.

Best
Stuntman Ignition - great score attack game and you get a few missions
Fight Night 3 - it's still on my HDD from day 1
Stranglehold - amazing 15mins of awesome but no-one would buy it...right?

Worst
Fatal Inertia - lasted 2mins on my HDD
Tiger Woods 07/08 - both for crushing my hopes of a decent golf game
C&C Tiberium Wars - made me realise I'll never play an RTS again (...okay maybe I'll try Halo Wars)
