He was "kicking up a fuss" because the Chinese-language one is region free and the English-language JP (which MS said they would exchange for his Chinese one) one isn't.
It is Mandarin, which is the most spoken version of Chinese. However, the game was being sold in Hong Kong, where Cantonese is the variation they speak, hence the guy being annoyed when it was in Mandarin.
I can't see most of the Master Chiefs phrases being particulary useful in everyday life. It would almost be as bad as my attempts to learn Spanish through the Pro Evo commentary.
Tis a good point actually the multiplayer voices turned to Chinese when I changed it on the dash, I wonder if the singleplayer ones do too.
