Is a 19" TV big enough for gaming?

I'm thinking of getting a second HDTV (Samsung 19" White) for the spare room...

I might occasionally plug my 360 into it, but do you think it's big enough for gaming? Normally we use the 32" samsung HDTV on the wall, which is just but I can't imagine the real size from a photo, so what do we think?

Oh and is the price any good?

EDIT: Sorry this should be in the question to the forum area, dunno what I was doing, can a mod please move it? Ta.

Alternatively, there is this : http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...I/Product.html

    What's the difference, a built in tuner...which is what...freeview?

EDIT 2 : Oh jesus I'm confused...what about this one, cheaper and bigger!! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-SM22...2474197&sr=1-1

    22" that one...1080i not p though I think?

I don't know mate. I think this could lead to some interesting discussion...

I personally don't think it matters what size your (ahem) TV is. I can't deny how bloody amazing it is playing the 360 on a super crisp 50+ inch TV (i envy my friend) and Wii sports is just superb on a bigger screen...

But i still love snuggling in my duvet and playing my games in bed, and that's on a tinsy 16inch screen (it could even be as small as 14inch!). Its so damn small i think it deserves to be called cute.

It depends on the game i suppose... Some games NEED a big TV, like Halo 3 or Gears of War (much like how 300 was made for the cinema) but i still love playing on my little TV. I think a 19" HDTV would be ideal for your spare room mate.

depends how close you sit to it surely.

I have a 32" HDTV and a 20" TFT, had 2 xbox 360s with 5 players playing system link on halo 3, everyone preferred the 20" because the chairs were closer to it, where as people on the HDTV had to sit other side of the room on the sofa, it seemed small compared to TFT.

Well on my 32" I never sit comfortably back in "my seat" on the sofa, I nearly ALWAYS lean forward, or sit on the other sofa closer, or even the footrest in the middle of the room.

I'm leaning on the 3rd option, the 22" Sammy from amazon, price is superb, size is fine. I'm getting trapped by "1080p" when in truth I just don't need that, and on a 22" I wouldn't notice anyway. Only my PS3 outputs in 1080p anyway and I won't be putting that in another room.

That 22" I'm talking about would be okay for plugging a freeview box into and stuff wouldn't it? It says it's a "monitor" not an HDTV...Input Video Signal: Analog RGB, DVI...so how would I plug a freeview box in, and the 360?

          Oh and Ad,
I personally don't think it matters what size your (ahem) TV is
I'm glad of that, but [possible_lie] my penis is enormous so don't worry.[/possible_lie]

I played the 360 on a 19" monitor for months, admittedly at a computer desk so was only sat about two foot away. Think it's just the habit of sitting in front of a screen all day, feels almost strange playing on the 32" wall mounted LCD sitting on the sofa - so much so I recently bought a 21" TFT widescreen monitor for using the PC/360/PS3 on - oh and the fact the missus watches so much crap on the TV.

Well this is the thing, she gets the TV back in the evenings and I get to go stick the headphones on and game it...the bedroom isn't big at all, at most I'll be a meter away from it.

The thing is do I wait for the black one with the inbuilt tuner (still don't know what that means) or buy that lovely white 19" one?

If anyone can tell me how to set up a freeview box on a monitor I'd buy that 22" Sammy monitor.

well i have a samsung 19inch(the R71 model) and its on my desk next to my pc so i sit under 1m away from it and the 360 looks great on it, way better than on my old 28inch crt i'd rather have hidef than a bigger crt.

so yeah if you can sit close to the screen it will be great.

and that samsung 22inch one is just a PC monitor not a tv hence why its cheaper. but if you only want to use the 360 with it via VGA then i would go for that i guess.

Nah, the ONLY way I can get away with buying another TV is if we can get a freeview box on it as well...the 360 covers games/dvds/streaming but not normal TV.

There's no way I'll find a 22" tv for that price either.

So which would we go for guys, 19" obviously, the white one out now (that looks LUSH) or the new pebble one out next month with a tv tuner built in (what does that mean, it's not freeview so what is it?) that does 1080p?

I recently got a HP w2207 with a gloss screen & I do love using it for my PC (thru DVI) & playing my 360 on it (thru VGA), but if u sit within about 3 - 4 feet of it u do notice the picture being slightly out of focus. I've tired fiddling with it but to no avail. It doesnt matter really as I sit about feet back on my beanbag when I'm playing me games & its nice n crisp from there.
I think that the 360 picture would be better thru DVI but thats not possible, unfortunatley.

There was an LG 22" Monitor with TV tuner or summat on play.com back in the summer for about £240. I ordered 1 but they kept putting back the release on it so I gave up. Not sure what the quality is like mind u as theres been mixed reactions.

Go with a Sammy u cant go wrong mate.

In conjunction with this for the best possible freeview picture on a budget...?

Actually, no way I'm paying that much just to upscale for a 19" TV!

Tuner just means it receives TV signals and tunes into them dude. Like any other TV, ever. Freeview means that it receives all the digital signals and has an EPG (electronic programme guide, like on Sky) and stuff.

So I may as well buy the white one and get a cheapy freeview box then?

On of my mates uses a 20" widescreen Samsung monitor with his 360 via VGA and it looks great.

Its also got DVI so you could use a PS3 with a HDMI/DVI adapter

Indeed. A small screen can be perfect in the right conditions. And it's funny but despite being fortunate enough now to play on a large high-def widescreen flat panel screen, my fondest gaming memories involve sitting in front of a 14 inch portable CRT.
