I gave up PC gaming about 3 or 4 years ago. One of the last games I puchased was Homeworld, that should give you some idea of how long I've been out of the loop.

BUT with HL2 coming up I've just splashed out on a load of new PC components to build myself a brand spanking new PC from the ground up. (I also want it for working on and for dling stuff from the net with BB).

I'm the same, mate. Doesn't make you a mutant.

      Or perhaps we're both mutants.

Either way, console gaming is immediate, instantaneous and stable. PCs play host to some wonderful games but they're not very good games machines.

I am in almost exactly the same boat as you Madbury!

The last PC game I bought was Homeworld... and I have to say it is the last game I bought on the recommendation of an IGN review as well .

Anyhow, I also thought long and hard about building my own PC/buying one since I have also just got BB, and wanted to play a few recent PC releases (CM4 for instance, and maybe HL2 for the future).

However I decided to keep with my P3 600 and invest the money in more console games or something else instead since I thought I would probably get more value from that.

Yep that's probably what I should have done in retrospect. I've spent about $550 so far and I still need to buy a video card!

However, the lure for me is the promise of BB internet access. You see the GF is going to use the PC for her PhD work and she would like access to the internet. SO the deal is I build her a new PC for working on and I get the BB internet that I so badly want for NTSC-UK, downloading and gaming.

2 years ago I didn't even own a console as I was so strongly into PC games, mainly Halflife mods. Unfortunately I just got sick of downloading patches and drivers, especially annoying when on a 56k, and BT are unable to give broadband in your area. Seeing how I was so heavily into online gaming at the time, the endless lag problems I faced in clan matches was just the last straw (still won the european cup in TFC though )

I miss the days, especially as Operation Flashpoint is still one of the best games I've ever played...but, I only play console stuff now.

Sold my PC, bought a nice laptop. Perfect.

It's like a revolving door for me, some months I hate everything to do with PC gaming, then I pickup Battlefield 1942, or Raven Shield and have an absolute blast on Co-op missions. Then some months I find the monotony of a game crashing and having patchup and piss about, and turn on me Cube.

Is your girlf paying for bb then? Otherwise, that sounds like a real bad deal
