    Xbox LIVE Friends Watch Sidebar!

    Found this on MajorNelson.com

Really nice addition to your desktop, if you need to install SilverLight it's free and here : http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Link...15&clcid=0x409

Just thought it might be of use to people!

You have to input friends gamertags manually and I think it's only 5 max at the moment but it's a start and it's pretty cool.

If you click the gamertag it shows you they're full gamertag with last played games, gamerscore etc.

Tried to get this sorted yesterday (only tried to add Yoshimax though, figuring he was the entry-point to most NTSC-UK games anyway. ) but can't get it working for some reason.

      Works fine for me.

      You've installed Silverlight right?

Download this gadget, double click it and it installs itself.

      It MIGHT be vista only?

Yep, Silverlight installed and I'm on Vista, but the gadget itself just sits there on the sidebar not displaying anything.

FFS: Turns out that I hadn't just added Yoshi, I'd added another mate I regularly play with, and instead of seperating the two with commas, I did it with a semicolon. Like a sensible person would.

        Working now.

You have to manually tell it your friends mate.

Underneath the "cross" (ie the close option) there is a spanner.

Click the spanner and a little window pops up, chuck a gamertag in there and click okay and they appear.

I think it's 5 only at the moment, you seperate them with a comma.

Yeah I'm guessing Vista only as I can't even install the gadget on Xp... Shame as it looks great and beats browsing xbox.com.

Yep, understood all of that, it was only the comma that flummoxed me.

According to this page, you can install silverlight on XP as well.

Silverlight installed fine, but when I download the gadget thing it's an unrecognisable file type.

XP doesn't have a sidebar, which is why it won't work

There are a few PC freeware apps about that can do this, and most of them automatically interface with xbox.com to pull your friends list back. What's so special about this one? I'm confused.

I've just found this on Google actually.

EDIT: That link for the download is dead, however this seems to be the same thing, I'm having a play around with it now, it's the Vista Sidebar for XP.

EDIT2: They're both crap and don't work properly. Trying one more, if it works I'll post a link.

Nothing really other than it sits nicely in your Vista Sidebar. Major Nelson mentioned it because he advertises anything using Silverlight at the slightest chance he gets (as it's Microsoft's big thing to displace Flash).

Should find Silverlight for most platforms (OSX included!), but obviously the sidebar thing is just for Vista.

Nothing special about it, I noticed it on Major Nelson, thought people might be interested and then posted it.
