    GBA Player

(don't think this is specifically PAL related..)

got my GBA player last night.. great fun. Took it down to mate's house and we had some score challenge Wario Ware fun... showed off Metroid Fusion and everyone was impressed.

Plugged in Street Fighter 3 Alpha... again, impressed... makes crawfish's work look even more impressive when you see it on the big screen (which, happened to be a 42" plasma!! ).

Then the cries of "can we play multiplayer" came... no, I explained... and there was much colourful expressions of lack of usefullness from the mates.

Tbh.. I'm not sure how the player could've done multiplayer effectively anyway... probably the only way would have been to have had a split screen, but this would probably have been a resource hog. Given that games weren't developed with single screen multi-play in mind, then games like Street Fighter 3 Alpha will have to remain a solitary experience...

The GBP actually contains GBA hardware, so for it to have been able to run four-player in splitscreen, it would have needed to have four sets of GBA hardware in it.

My GBA Player was great - the games looked so good it made me realise how ****e the display was on the original GBA. So I went out and bought an SP, and now I never use the player....

yeap... can't see how you could do the GBA multiplayer without having four running simultaneously...

however.. even compared to the SP, the sound and vibrancy of the graphics on a decent big TV is very impressive... SF3A, WarioWare and Metroid are good examples...

I reckon I'll play more on the TV when at home and SP on the move... now.. if only they'd bring out a handheld animal crossing....

I thiiiink that the new Seiken Densetsu game, Sword Of Mana, has an GBA Player mode where you can play multiplayer on the same screen. I'm not 100% sure though...

How that would be worth buying a GBA player for :-)

Is it possible to plug in a second GBA into the port on the front of the gameboy player, with player 2 using the GBA as a pad.
You'd need 2 carts of the game though.
Games like SFA3 should work as you have both players on the same screen.
Just a thought, don't know if it works

If you plugged a second GBA in using a GBA link cable, then you can play 2-player, but player 2 would be using the screen on the GBA. For games where the screen is the same, that would be OK anyway. Yes, you'd need two carts, unless it was a multiplayer-from-one-cart game.

Note you have to use the GBA link cable, not a GC/GBA connector cable.

I seem to remember back in the old Super Game Boy days, the cartridges could be programmed so that two people could play using 2 SNES pads if the game was viable that way, but would still use a link cable when played on regular GameBoy hardware.

Killer Instinct springs to mind as a game that offered this feature. Perhaps future GBA games could have similar features added?

                            Hello,
I imported a beautiful indigo player from Oz and it is indeed PAL.
Why they never released them over here I'll never know. Its just a case of putting a PAL disc in the box.

The Super Gameboy was a nice piece of kit, extra things included.

Ability to play two player games via two pads if the game allowed it (Killer Instinct Mentioned)
Certain games could use the Super Famicom sound chip to enhance sound experience (Donkey Kong)
Bypass Gameboy completely and have Super Famicom games (Space Invaders...)
Nice colour pictures (plug in Gameboy Colour cartridges (cant do this on a normal gameboy as they don't fit...))
