It also depends on the quality of the VGA input on your TV. And most TVs let you keep different picture settings for each input so you might need to retune the picture with a VGA cable.
But in reality with good cables and good inputs there shouldn't be much of a difference between HDMI and VGA since 720p combined with a 60Hz refresh rate is nothing that comes anywhere near the physical limitations of the VGA standard in terms of data volume. One big advantage of HDMI for me is the option for longer cables and the digital nature of the signal which means that you probably won't have any interference issues with a HDMI cable. Also there are some games out there that have some compatibility issues when using a VGA cable so HDMI is the way to go for me.
