Personally I agree with these quotes

A lot of the games are sequels and I would like to see more innovation

    Margaret Robertson, games consultant

    GAMES OF THE YEAR?

    Bioshock - 95.3%
    Call of Duty 4 - 95.1%

    CPS
    Halo 3 - 93.2%
    God of War 2 - 93%
    Mass Effect - 93%
    Crysis - 91%

I have been publicly criticised for saying that we are yet to see a next generation game in terms of gameplay. And I stand by that
    David Braben, Frontier Games

Mass effects aside, I feel that there is close to nil innovation going on these days. Its all sequels or sequels disguised as 'new' games. Bio shock was just system shock under a different setting.

Isn't it a bit weird saying too many are sequels and we need more innovation and then saying how great Mario, Orange Box, Call of Duty, Halo, God of War and PGR are?

Also, there's no news, so moved to general gaming.

LOL didn't realise I had to be a "hardcore" to play Bioshock and Halo 3.

On/off topic or not, what other games have Edge given 10/10 prior to the three this year?

Sounds like as far as the Beeb are concerned, the Wii is now the definition of mainstream gaming and anything else is considered hardcore/specialist.

The BBC's games coverage is, as it always has been, contemptible at best. They should just stop mentioning games in any respect as every single article they churn out is just a hideous embarrassment.

I noticed that too! Plenty of in-depth research obviously...

If it's any consolation at least it's some positive publicity for gaming. Always makes a nice change!

There's bugger all room left for innovation with standard tv/console/joypad combinations. Most of the genres have been done to death, that's the reason it's all sequels people are buying - they take the formula and refine it.

It's only new interfaces which can really offer much in the way of true innovation now if you ask me, and even then it's just a difference in immersion and re-invented formulae.

Yeah that aside, the quotes I highlighted was very much spot on imo.
