My favourites at the moment are Edge and Games TM, but that's mainly because everything else on the shelves isn't worth reading. I've been reliably informed that PC Gamer is also quite good, but seeing as I'd rather place my testicles in a food blender than play a PC game, I wouldn't know. Oh, and the best games mag ever is a 3 way toss-up between early-N64 mag, Super Play or Amiga Power.

I don't buy games mags much these days especially now edge has lost the plot, it's a shadow of it's former self.
However i've been buying games TM over the last few months as it seems to be getting better each issue and the Retro section for us older gamers is a very interesting and nostalgic read.
Super Play,Crash and Zzap 64 are easily the best games mags ever to grace my humble hands(I still have extensive collections of SP & Crash 8) )

Edge humour? It's always there. My fave was the Black and White feature that had the captions ****ed up. The following month they slipped in the offending text in a "not so subtle" manner which I thought was very funny. I also like the way they slagged of their former art editor recently. Obviously I'm now intrigued as to what the falling out was. Don't suppose they'll tell though...

I used to buy Edge quite frequently but recently it's done nothing but bore me rigid. I then switched to GamesTM (at issue 7 i believe) and am enjoying it far more than recent issues of Edge. Sure GamesTM has stuff to work on (some of the funky layouts and reviews could be meatier to name two) but to me it's like a breath of fresh air. I wanted a magazine that wasn't aimed at acne ridden 12 year olds but then also wasn't bordering on coffee table pretentiousness, "yah, we're that cool we're almost horizontal".
As for single format magazines, i used to buy Official Xbox Magazine but i only managed about 10 issues in total before i gave up completely. I did mainly buy it for the demos, but since they started to be recycled more often than our water supply i haven't even bothered buying the magazine for them either. As for the writing..dear God, dont get me started. I'm sure the writers on that magazine may very well be talented, but i refuse to read a magazine written for ****ing simpletons. I wont comment on whether single format bias/bribes really exist, but the fact is i'm an adult, i buy what i want and that extends to consoles. I bought an Xbox for it's games like i bought a DC and GC for their games. I really, really dont need to be or want to be reminded every SINGLE review and preview about how the game in question couldn't be done on any other console in the known galaxy due to "THE EXTREME POWAH OF XBOX". As for Xbox Man, haw haw haw, how amusing...

Anyway I think that edge is still the best mag at the moment, I have read most issues of Games TM but got the impression it was a poor mans edge, I like the retro section and some import reviews but that is about it. The best official mag has to be the saturn one, I was proud to be a saturn owner reading that mag when all my mates owned PS and N64.
