They didn't do a very good job of it. This hardware reviewer has a Japanese PS3 for watching Blu-ray discs on and that hasn't stopped Sony inviting me to their press events and sending me to Berlin

My PSP is from JPN but my PS2 (chipped and HD Loader'd) is PAL, as is my 360 and my daughters Wii.

The site and members should feel proud that in some small way they have contributed to the change int he industry stance of 50/60Hz problems and regional locking.

There are those here though that I'm sure would prefer it was like the bad old days, only if it's for the exclusivity thing. . The whole import/shipping(postage to me and you mortals) these days is just a few clicks on a website yet so many people I know look on it with awe that you can get stuff from Hong Kong etc in a few days.

I think NTSC-UK certantly don't have as much, if at all, to rally against anymore.

Almost all games are widescreen, 60hz, full screen beasts and are released within a few weeks of their Japanese or US counterpart. As such reasons for importing have decreased unless you have a niche that the UK can't supply you with.

I used to import on the good 'ol Dreamcast as I could use a boot up CD but all in all I have always been a PAL gamer. I even was when I joined the site during the glory days of Saurian and Marcus, however I enjoy the scene and the people.

seems stupid to do region free but then clamp down on it
Most shops ship to here without question. There has been a couple that haven't but they haven't been any larger or more significant than the shops that do still sell.

It seems Sony had problems with consoles being sold in regions where they'd not had the certificates for. A JP machine doesn't carry safety certificates such as the kite mark and a few others which would make them illegal inside the UK.

If you want import stuff though, it doesn't take any effort to buy it online.

For me I mainly buy games on XBOX 360 and Wii. So I import Wii games and occasionally PS2 games. I don't need to import XBOX 360 games, but if I could play MLB 2K7 baseball on PAL XBOX 360 I would import it.

I am planning to buy a US PS3 soon for movies as well as games.

Import is becoming less important these days.

I don't import as much as i used to, just the odd 360 game and pretty much all my DS and PSP games. As far as the hardware goes the biggest concern is reliablility, i couldn't imagine anything worse than importing a PS3, 360 or Wii and then ending up with it breaking and having all the hassle of trying to get it repaired. With the old consoles it wasn't like that as they seem to last forever.

I have a JP PS3, pal 360, US wii, JP PSP and DS.
I tend to get my games where ever I get the best value from so 90% of them are imported.
Same goes for dvd HDDVD and BRD as I have a region free HTPC.

I have noticed friends cottening onto the idea of getting goods imported for the sake of savings.
Long gone are the days of TV problems as it must be hard in the uk to buy a new tv that wont display an ntsc signal.

Given the length of time it takes for games to make it from the other regions importing is mostly defunct for me. I imported a Wii because Nintendo are one of the worst for delaying games and I thought that the US would end up with a better selection of VC games. I was right about the delays, but if anything the euro VC has had a few things quicker than the US.

I'm just wondering if on a day not too long in the future we will get new members signing up and asking why the website is named after a bunch of random letters. Either that or (I can barely bring myself to write this) the name will change from NTSC-UK to something more modern. UKGAMERSRUS.

I'm pleased to see that technology and companies attitudes have finally meant that NTSC isn't a big load of expensive faff it used to be.

                        Indeed!

I have a US ps3 and a PAL 360. I have owned a Jap SFC and US cube, but I went and bought a PAL wii. I never expected the games to come out so fast in PAL land, and I'm only really in it for wii sport and mario.

Anyway, I am glad I bought the US playstation 3 as it was much cheaper (Hand bought in the states) and I get Blue Rays quicker and cheaper than in Europe.

I tried hard to get a US wii, but all the shops near our Houston office wanted to sell 500 dollar "Bundles" with heaps of crap, so I ended up selling the NTSC games I had bought and went with a PAL unit which are in plentiful supply.

The 360 is my most used machine, and that seems well treated with PAL releases, so I have no need to import.

I guess I've gone from import only to "Import when needed".

Hats off to MS they’re the only corp. to treat the Pal Market with a ounce of respect They’ve made importing a X-Box or 360 all but pointless , I got a Pal PS3 but that was because it was region free and Woolworths had a top deal

The only current import machines I’ve got is PSP and the Wii. But we all have to import the Wii given the utter contempt Nintendo Europe treats the Pal market.

Funnily enough I have more import machines then PAL this gen for the first time ever (I chipped the PS2 and original Xbox and had a Panny Q so it was a non issue last gen).

I went for a US Wii as a) I could actually get hold of one and b) Nintendo's continued contempt for all of us in PAL land.

The US PS3 was solely due to the price and I happened to be over there with unused luggage limit in September.

The DS lite and PSP were Jap machines due to the thrill of the new...no other good reasons as they are both region free.

So I import more than before - but its mainly due to cost savings then anything else...

For the 360 there seems no advantage to an imported machine to me...
