Which version of Guitar Hero should I get?

I just downloaded GH3 on my 360 & had a bash on 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot' & 'Hurricane' with my controller. I'm pretty impressed, however its a lot of ££££££'s to shell out so should I jump straight into 3 or try & get hold of GH1 or GH2 inc Guitar on the cheap?

If so then are there any differences between formats besides the visuals e.g. song lists? Btw I have a PS2/360 & Wii.

Is there any difference in the build quality of the Guitars & are there more buttons on the recent GH3 model?

Do you strum it while u push the fret buttons or is it just the fret that u use?

    Thanx.

The newer GH3 guitar is wireless which is a big plus, I prefer the buttons and the overall build on it also.
It's one of those games that you seem to not be able to find cheaply, the guitars hold their value very well because people always want extras.

I can't imagine that you'll get any DLC on the Wii one, it also requires the wii remote to be inserted into the front of the guitar in order to work.

The PS3 and 360 ones both have the same DLC content, although as usual the 360 one has Live support so is a little better in terms of voice chat etc.
360 version has a free Halo Theme track you can download.

You can get the PS3 and 360 version for £60 in HMV, which is a bargain as GAME sell it for £75

I'd say the 360 version as you could always pick up GH2 on it's own (£15 in CEX) if you want more tracks.

Yeah you need to strum while holding the correct fret buttons, playing on a controllers gives you no idea at all what its like to play properly, its so different!

Personnaly I'd advise you to get GHII on the 360 for cheap as possible then GHIII solus after that if you wanted too if you dont mind having a wired guitar which I dont mind. Otherwise just jump straight into GHIII and get the wireless guitar.

They are pretty much the same on PS2 and 360 gameplay wise, but I prefer the 360 guitar and obviously the visuals too!

GH3 with Guitar, then GH2 (360). The wireless guitar is the best there is and there's plenty of solo GH2's on eBay.

Yeah the cheapest I've seen GH2 + Axe for was £45 but it was on the PS2.

I've read some customer reviews on Amazon & Gamefaqs & some have mentioned that due to the GH3 Axe (360 version) being wireless some people have had problems with it not working properly. Anyone had this problem?

Whats the PS2 80's Rock version like? Any good?

I would have gone for the Wii version but as u mentioned theres no downloads for it & it sounds like a lot of hassle having to connect your Wiimote to the Axe, plus I read that the songs are in mono sound.

I still dont know which 1 to go for though

Worth baring in mind that a number of people think GH3 is inferior to GH2. EDGE gave the latest game 6/10.

No one on this forum has had any problems with it, I'd choose the new guitar over the old one any day. It feels so much better to use.

I always have issues with wireless stuff like not working at a reasonable distance from the console, etc... That's controllers too, not just guitars and things. Probably the chip in my head causing 'issues'

Yeah you need to strum while holding the correct fret buttons
Is that true in GHII too? Do you know in Rock Band if you use the upper/solo frets then you don't need to strum!

Seconded - I'd go 3 first then pick up 2 solus.

Most people prefer 2 to 3 as it's tighter with the timing - it's for exactly that reason you'd be better going 3->2 than 2->3

Plus the wireless guitar is awesome

I prefer gh2 tbh but i would say buy gh3 for the DLC / online / wireless and pick up a cheap gh2 solus

I took your advice & went up to Swansea's Sainsbury's store today as they had a 20% off all games DVD's & CD's & bagged the 360 version of Guitar Hero 3 + Axe for just under £52.
I had to carry it around for 5 hrs though as the missus wanted to go Christmas shopping. I got really paranoid thinking some Swansea chavs were gonna try & nab it off me or summat.
What pissed me off was that people kept bumping into it & strangely enough it was always old gits that were bumping it. I thought I was gonna have to give someone an ear bashing it got so bad.

I nearly shat myself when I walked past HMV & noticed that they had a huge offer on Guitar Hero 3 + Axe for £39.99, then realised it was the PS2 version. I went in to check & the 360/PS3/Wii versions were still £60 (phew!).

I havent given it a go yet & I am wondering whether or not to keep it as a Chrimbo pressie.
