Wii Virtual console gifts! Send your friends a game!

I think someone made a thread about this before (maybe even me) about this feature. Well it hits today!

The long-awaited Wii Shop gift feature has launched in both Europe and the US! Now you can send your friend(s) VC games! Naturally you have to pay for them first, and there's no discount or anything, but hey, surely you want to let your friends enjoy Urban Champion as well, right?

Later in the day on Monday, Nintendo will make your holiday shopping just a little bit easier. If some people on your gift list have visions of classic video games dancing in their heads, you're in luck. Starting this week, Wii Shop Channel patrons can use a new Gifting feature to send games to other Wii owners with whom they've traded Friend Codes. It's an easy and inexpensive way to give your fellow Nintendo buffs the gift of a classic game - no wrapping paper required. And don't worry about duplication. If your friend already has the game you're trying to give, you'll get a simple message and be bumped back into the catalog to continue shopping.
Oh and my Wii friend code is in the Wii friend code threads for anyone that wants it

This will probably come to PAL Wii during next batch of games. Secret Santa anyone?

Who wants to be the first to try sending a US game (that isn't out in Europe) to a PAL console?

        It is limited by region

It was practically enforced by the Laws of Nintendo that it would be region locked :P

I think you're missing the joke.
Nintendo are the worst when it comes to region locking (or whatever its called) With 360 and PS3 being semi Region free, The wii is the only one sat at 100% region locked. Nintendo even made a firmware update to stop freeloader I believe.

Nintendo blocked Freeloader thanks to fact that it could be used to execute unsigned code on Wii. And Nintendo couldn't legally offer VC sharing between regions, because they would be legally responsible if unrated (read: american version) game would be received by minor.

Just updated my Wii with this. The update also included better linking between the Shopping channel and Everyone's Nintendo channel. And there's a new version of the photo channel which has to be downloaded from the Shopping channel.

Though I don't know anyone with a Japanese Wii so it make very little difference to me.

Hmh, according to Wii Shop Channel, you can only send gifts to other users that live in same country as you. Pretty understandable considering that this could be easily exploited using current exchange rates, but I can't understand why Euro countries can't trade with each other.

EDIT: According to few users, it is because of tax laws, and legal hassle that they would cause.

Anyone know how the new Photo Channel version 1.1 differs from version 1.0? Seems exactly the same to me.

Its a little annoying that you have to have the same country settings. I wanted to send a friend a game but my console is set to USA, his was Brazil. Once he switched to USA it worked OK.

More worryingly I heard that your Wii points now get erased when you change country now. I think this might have been the case for Auzzies changing to EU but someone was telling me this now happens when switching USA to Brazil.... is this true? I haven't tried it myself yet!!

Umm... are you getting old or what? I mean, this has been true for five months already, and it was you who informed us about this on the first place.
