Best Old Game of 2007 (Either new to you or replay)

For me it was Animal Leader/Dobutsu Bancho/Cubivore.

Such a beautifully savage game. Perfect game to show that more is not always best.

I'm still thinking about it 4 months after my first play through. Highlight was drawing one of the bosses helpers away to eat him and a normal cubivore got in the way which caused me to be ripped apart. Oh the joy of returning and massacring the group of Cubivore's that little sod was with.

My best "old" game of 2007 would have to be Okami on PS2 (US version out over a year so can it be classed as old?)

If not that then Battalion Wars on the 'Cube. Brilliant fun!!

2007 was the year I finally played ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Psychonauts, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Beyond Good & Evil, and Shenmue.

But, even with those, I'm going to give the nod for "how did it take me this long?" to Deus Ex on the PC. Stunning game, and one of the few I've ever finished and then wanted to go back and try the whole thing over again, using different tactics.

Final Fantasy X-2. I really liked it. It's just light-hearted and fun, and still looks pretty slick.

I play 'old' games almost exclusively, in fact the only new game I've played this year was Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

Most recently I've been playing PS2 Deus Ex (as said above - superb entertainment). Amongst others in 2007 I also did XBox Fable: Lost Chapters (thoroughly enjoyable), GC Resident Evil remake (reminded me why I used to like RE), PS2 Ratchet & Clank 3 (shooty platformy fun at its best), PS2 Shinobido (Tenchu evolved and in most respects better).

Worst mistake this year was actually my Xmas 2007 game. For practical reasons it had to be an old PS title: Pitfall 3D Beyond the Jungle. I really enjoy platformers and this should have been fun but it has turned out to be one of the most unnecessarily frustrating games I've ever played.

There?s only two real contenders I can think of for favourite old game of 2007. I first played Paper Mario 2: The thousand year door when it came out in America. A fan of the first game I played the sequel a little bit, but like the N64 game and indeed Mario RPG on the SNES I didn?t get very far before I stopped playing. It?s not that there were anything wrong with the series its just that they didn?t hold my interest as much as other games around at the time. Super Paper Mario on the Wii is the first in the series I played from start to finish in the space of a month and left me craving more. I went back and stuck in Paper Mario 2 and I was hooked. I still haven?t finished it, but I?m close this time and just got a little stuck near the end. This year it will be finished.

The other game is another I picked up on day of release only this time I didn?t touch it at all until 2007. Final Fantasy IX came out on the PS1 in a year I banned computer games due to me being in my final year of university and did not want to fall into the same addictions that compromised my A-Levels. Majora?s mask also came out this year, a game I brought on day of release but still have not played to this day. How was I to know companies would keep on releasing new games after I finished my assignments and exams ? My brother did play these games though and wanted to experience FFIX for the first time again, vicariously through me. Yes, I didn?t think Final fantasy makes a good spectator game either but everytime I played it, my brother wanted to be there to watch. Like Mario this game remains uncompleted as more modern games like Bioshock started coming out and taking precedence. I?ll get back to this eventually.

Paper Mario wins as favourite old game of 2007 for its charm, humor and addictivness. I can?t believe I didn?t enjoy it as much the first time round. This year, if I ever complete Twilight Princess, who knows, I may feel the need to look at Majora?s mask.

My favourite 'non-2007' games this year have probably been Gun on XBox (lovely, atmospheric landscape, and just the right length) or Max Payne on GBA (cos it was 97p in Currys and the snap of the shotgun during bullet-time is well-blasty.)

Glad to see so much Deus Ex love on this page. I only ever played the PS2 version (which I thought was stunning back in 2002) but have since played the even better PC version. What a great game.

Finally got round to playing and completing Resident Evil Directors Cut on the PSone and loved it. That would be my pick.

                  Easy, Persona 3.

Of all of the non-new games that I played in 2007, I'd probably say RE4 was the best. I'm not going to gush over it, it's a very good game for me, nothing more.

Two games I was genuinely surprised by though after the slating they get (The PS2 one at least) was Killzone/Liberation. I played the original PAL version on PS2 a few years back and just couldn't get into it at all, but I picked up the US version and played it through without touching anything else. It's not perfect, but if you can look past the technical issues (Which I could, and that's not something I can often say) it's a very enjoyable shooter with some good level design, interesting characters and storyline and, for me at least, a beautiful art design.

Killzone Liberation I played because it extends the storyline leading into Killzone 2, and again enjoyed it hugely (Even though it shocked the **** out of me when I realised it wasn't a first/third person shooter. )

Weirdly, I was thinking of starting a thread just like this. I'm typically quite a way behind with what I'm playing so most of the standard 'best of' threads don't really apply to me. Loads more oldies to play through this year as well... starting with me convincing myself that I need to enjoy Devil May Cry.

ICO and Wander to Kyozou are the only games I've actually finished this year that I haven't played before, so I'll say those two. Other than that I've completed Biohazard DS about 300 times, and played thousands of games of SF2 like I do every year.

Pikmin 2. I went back to this to do the extra ending, it's such a classic game! Nintendo put so much passion into it. I wonder if we'll see another?

                          I highly expect so.
Either DS or/and Wii versions seem likely

I kind of agree with this. I didn't think Killzone was all that bad. But I lost interest by the time you reach the snow levels. I thought the first half of the game in the distressed streets and building was the highlight.

Not so old but Okami and Final Fantasy XII have been the only big games I've really got stuck into this year. Haven't finished either yet, but I've been loving both.

Also been playing through Star Ocean on the SFC again and really been enjoying it. Looking forward to getting started on Luigi's Mansion and Beyond Good & Evil.
