Only tried the first one but to be honest if you don't speak the language I wouldn't bother. VERY text heavy, I spent my time running around thinking "looks nice" but that's it.

wading through text with some chick at the moment, but i just learned 'dosue' means 'desu'. i must be doing something wrong cos her expressions seem to switch between shocked, sad, and as i type this she's frowning a bit. and i got a green drink, too...

i just had a choice between three things, i went with the middle one (had the kanji for woman in it) and she laughed!

            i'm on form...

oops it's finished! and i got charged 5000 things by the old bat.

            gonna try the mini game...

            there's a guy with a horse.

ok i was riding down this path trying to hit these targets, while watching out for trees that i had to duck out of the way of by doing QTE things.

gonna try the other demo now, that was a waste of a 900mb download

btw in case you're deciding which out of the two demos to try first, the xmb background for the one i just played has the yakuza guy facing you with a sword out. the other demo (proper one) has him on the far left of the screen with his arms folded, and the word 'scenario' in katakana.

I’m disappointed in the graphics , I know this started out as a PS2 production but that little excuse for the poor and basic graphics in parts Texture detail is weak as are some of the character models , there’s hardly any interaction with the backrounds , not even little things like foot prints in the dusts and the water effects look a bit **** . But then in other parts it looks great which some great models and tons going on ???

Gameplay is looking good though more of the game and finishing blow moves are just as brutal and satisfying

                  I was underwhelmed. I played both demo's.

One of them seem to be about some loose events. The first option on the main menu puts you into some conversation with a Geisha. The 2nd is about horseriding and the 3rd about fighting. The other demo is about free roam.

It just looks like a Ps2 game in HD, and I thought the battle gameplay wasn't intruiging. I saw some very basic animations there.

I don't think i'm going to look out for this one.

If you liked RGG1 and 2 then this is more of the same and I liked it, despite not being able to really work out what to do on the free roam.

If you speak to the guy near the big red dojo/temple thing then he gives you a picture of a cat. Once you've finished talking to him there is a cat sat watching some mice and you get put into a quick QTE as the cat. Once he catches a mouse your character goes to draw a picture of the cat and you get three options and a timer. If you select the right one, he quickly draws the cat and then celebrates, or if you choose the wrong option he screws up the paper and throws it away.

I then stumbled across some guy harassing a women and got into a fist fight with him. Same sort of system as the previous two games and I dispatched of him pretty quick.

For some reason I struggled to understand what was happening a lot more in this demo than I did playing RGG1 and part of 2 in Japanese; there definitely seems to be more options when people ask you questions and it can take a while to successfully end each conversation.

This is still a day-one purchase for me, but whether that is the Japanese or Western release I'm not really sure. It is likely I will go with the JPN version, just because I can't bare waiting, but even if I do I'll probably still pick up the Western version down the line for a second play-through where I understand completly what is going on.

i did the cat thing, too! it was funny

i wasn't sure if he was learning some skill or what, based on the fact the guy gives you the picture of a cat.

i got bored after that so never found the guy harassing the women.

the sound is a bit off for me. was playing it in 5.1 and there was a band in the middle of the street. facing them, i couldn't hear anything. if i turned my back on them i suddenly heard the music. it would pan properly across the rear speakers towards the front ones as i turned back towards them but as soon as i was facing them it'd stop again. weird...

also, shame there's no kodomo mode like there was in shenmue (of course, being a cero D game i highly doubt the inclusion of a kodomo mode! maybe a foreigner mode perhaps?)

Played this for a bit earlier and despite understanding about 2% of what was being said I have to say I quite enjoyed it, it's the first time I've played a RGG title and I can see where some of the Shenmue comparisons come from.

The first demo is just mini games taken from the main game with the other being a demo of the main game itself. With the Geisha part you have to buy her a gift as well as her preferred type of food/drink in order to gain her affection which is represented by the heart guage at the top left corner, the answers you give to her questions will increase or decrease the heart guage depending on what answers you give, there are two Geisha you can choose from with each one having different preferences. The other mini games are pretty self explanitory, one is purely combat and the other is riding around on horseback.

I kind of rushed through the main demo but it seems to consist of a few fetch quests and two story driven fights, the qte cut scene with the cat lets you gain a new move during fights if you give the correct answer after the qte. Visually I thought it was a mixed bag, some areas of the town aren't particularly detailed but the character models during the cut scenes particularly the one at the end of the demo impressed me. I'll probably pick this up on release but I would definitely wait for an english translation, now if I can only track down a cheap version of Yakuza before 2 is released in the US.

Ok, I'm late to the party but I really enjoyed the main demo. Didn;t understand a word of what's going on but I enjoyed it anyway. Not played the first game and gutted that it's not compatible with my PS3 (I don't have a PS2 any more).

                            Famitsu liked it - Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! (PS3, Sega): 10 / 9 / 9 / 9 - (37/40)

Shame it's so heavy on the text, otherwise would've picked this up.
