    Worst case design

I type this having just broke another Pal Dreamcast case.

It?s the third one I?ve broken over the last few months and has me questioning whether these games were ever intended to be played.

I mean, the hinges snap if you open them too vigorously, the little spindle/disc holder thing breaks if you as much as breath on it. It?s like the designer only had display purposes in mind.

So is the DC casing the pinnacle of poor design or can it get even worse?

The massive MegaCd/SegaCD/US Saturn cases come in a close 2nd lol

      N64 / SNES boxes?

But yeah, the DC one is pretty bad. Pretty much every NEW game I ordered online arrived damaged. I have around 20 of my fave DC games on PAL now and all have perfect cases! Did have to do a lot of swapping around of bits, mind!

PAL Sega Saturn cases (the cardboard and plastic ones, not the revised later version). Would destroy your game discs due to the game manual being forced against the disc, resulting in cracks.

Just googled the Sega CD case.

They look like two plain glass windows with a vinyl record in the middle lol

Death by 3ft drop from letterbox. That's what killed my sealed copy of Sega Rally 2 - the case literally exploded when it hit the floor.

The PS1 PAL cases were nearly as brittle as the DC ones.

They should all be made like the little plastic case you got the ps2 network adaptor disk in.

Or standard music CD case. Easily damaged, but even easier to replace. Would save a lot of space too.

my fav case design....while perhaps big were the snap case designs for the saturn....i think duke nukem 3d had one....the other saturn case while not fragile it just annoyed me they would not stay closed

Dc cases i really dont like .....i often get the little things that hold the disc in breaking

Yeah like the import DC, ps1,saturn or mega cd

Good the way you can change the 2 disker's aswell

I like the one's that have the little round tuff plastic cd holder piece instead of the common we teeth that always break.

The early Saturn cases and the Dreamcast case are the worst ever , well other than the dreadfull boxes for N64 , Snes software and 3DO USA software .

Best ever for me were the Pal Mega Cd cases , Not only did we get Spin Cards , but the double case meant you could store a extra game in there and perfect for stacking (even horizontally)

The Jpn N64 boxes seem a bit better in tuffness than pal/Us.

I like the looks of the Japanese GC cases. But that cardboard thing covering the plastic case is pretty impractical. And gets damaged easily.

Blu-ray, HD-DVD, PS3 cases are by far the best. Light, small and they look nice.

Dreamcast PAL Cases are a bastard to replace.

I like the Blu Ray Cases though I wouldn't mind the PS3 Blu Ray cases either being some sorta see-through back or red to represent the consoles colour like the PS2 Cases eventually going Blue in Europe.
