I'm having a little quandry. I keep going through phases where I really want to collect games, previously had decent DS / GC / Xbox collections, which I then subsequently get rid off. Currently I've got 40 odd X360 games and I'm getting the same feeling that I need to get rid. It's very frustrating. Anyone else have this problem? or can you tell what you do with your games (keep / sell) and why?

Had a check the other day, I currently own about seven 360 games and four PS3 games. We have about a dozen DS games in the house, and a handful of PSP ones and that's it.
Never been a big collector, and nowadays trade games in quickly before their value plummets. Purely due to the fact that I know that in 90% of cases I won't return to them.
Renting really devalues owning games (imo) if you see what I mean.

I've pretty much kept everything I've ever bought since selling my Commodore 64 to buy a SNES back in 1991. Since then I've bought all iterations of the GameBoy (original, color, advance, SP, Micro) and taken in PS1, PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast, GameCube, DS (original and Lite) and I'm curently on my Wii.
It's got to the stage now tho where I've just got far too much stuff and sick of moving it all having moved house several times in the past few years so decided to have a big clear out. Going to keep certain machines and the truly classic games but getting rid of the rest. When it comes to selling them some XBox games have gone down pretty well over on PlayTrade recently - I've sold a mixture of 10 games and a few DVD's so far and took ?150 which is great.
My advice would be keep it while you can but a lot of items will most likely be worth jack in the end tho certain ones you will make money on. The trick is obviously in knowing which but also selling stuff at the right time. I think going forward digital distribution will have an affect on prices of rarer games like it has on music and films too.

My heart wants to collect, my wallet doesn?t like the idea. I fall into the trap of buying games for the sake of building a collection or as I like to put it to my imaginary finance department ?building a choice of games?. I currently own about 45 games for the DS, the bulk of which was brought in 2005. I also own 23 games for the Wii. So, instinct is to collect. 2006 I put a block on these kind of purchases so I never fell in the same trap with the 360, but I found it easy to slip back into it with the Wii.
As a rule I don?t sell my games. Exceptions have been made but I generally hang on to a game I?ve either liked or have the potential to like, so in that sense I collect. To many people I?ve seen seeking out games they once owned and want to play again. That, hopefully, won?t happen to me. I have tightened up entry requirements to my collection, but once there they generally stay.
Sometimes I feel weighed down by the games I haven?t played enough or not at all and think of selling up and starting a fresh. Then I think back to those poor saps trying to find those lost treasures. So I keep, I store, I look at and think. Wow, that?s a lot of Wii/DS/PS/DC games.

Well I used to collect Star Wars figs/vehicles & had quite a large collection of PSone Import RPG's but decided to get rid of most of it because I dont even get them out to have a look at & I needed the money.
I also got rid of a lot of Xbox & PS2 games but have kept most of my GC games..........so far.
If u really really think you'll go back to your 360 games them keep them. Otherwise I'd get rid & make some decent money b4 they're only worth £2!

I used to have a huge console collection. 21 systems (including handhelds) and hundreds of games.
I'll be honest. There's no way I could claim to have played half the games I owned. Some of the consoles lay dormant for months at a time. Once I realized that I was wasting time and money I sold pretty much everything. And, of course, made a substantial lost. Even my rare imports and MVS stuff went cheaply.
Collecting isn't an investment and owning a big pile of games you have never played will bring you no satisfaction.
Even now I have a 360, Wii, PSP, DS, Saturn and PS3. And about 6 games that I haven't touched on the 360 yet. Plus 3 Wii games waiting on some attention. Not to mention little time for the handhelds when I'm not on a train or plane.
PS3? Well that's just a Blu-Ray player/Folding rig or the situation would be worse.

I keep pretty much everything. I had to sell a few games when we were in a tight spot last year but don't really regret it. I have a few items which I know I'll never sell and I'm trying not to buy more...though I have about 30 games across several systems that I've never played. I also recently thinned out the number of DS boxes I have taking up space and binned about 30, keeping the game, manual and label. I own all three items I wanted to buy before I came to Japan so I'm pretty much set. Although there are 2 games I'm considering shelling out a lot on if I can afford it in a few months.
Collecting is fine if you have the money and the space.

These days I only keep the absolute cream of the crop that I know I will play again. I?ve probably got about 15-20 games spread across the PS3/360/Wii/DS/PSP. Although I went through a fad of ?collecting? a few years ago, I quickly realised that for me, it was utterly pointless, and it actually made me feel worse seeing all those games stuck on a shelf, probably never to be played again, when I knew I could be spending the money on something more worthwhile. There are exceptions of course ? I keep certain older titles that I have special memories of or that I know will be very hard to find again, but that?s it.

There's a difference between collecting games and keeping the games you buy. Collecting games as in where the pleasure is derived from seeking out perfect examples of certain games, as much, if not more than actually playing them. That's what collecting really is all about and is almost an entirely different hobby to playing video games. Keeping your old xbox 360 games or whatever isn't really collecting but it is almost as pointless

That's a good point from SuperDanX.
Most the time I think we delude ourselves that our first generation PlayStation is going to be our retirement fund, when the reality is zillions of other people have them too and they're now practically worthless!
Personally, I try to buy only one game at a time and play it until I've finished with it then move onto the next one. Well, that's the theory and what I used to do up until I got a 360, but I'm trying to play through my small backlog now I've got it back from being repaired.
At the end of the day, it's just... stuff. You can't take it with you...
Sheesh, most people struggle taking it to their next house!
