Not being an avid fan of a certain gaming magazine, notably 'Gamesmaster', I'm proud to announce that I have only just got round reading the reviews from the July issue. One of these reviews was of Enter The Matrix, I thought i might share it with you.....
quote: "don't bother with the grenades - they bounce so unpredictibly you'll end up killing yourself"
-I don't think just ignoring faults as amazing physics or something like that really shows the mark of a good review....
quote: "[the driving and on-rails shooting] tend not to be as spectacular as the rest of the game"
-like all those realistically similar corridors, eh?
quote: "the sinister twins pop up for a brief (and frustrating) chase sequence"
-and is it frustrating because it needs mad-skillz or because it's just poorly done?
another quote: "there's a two player dojo option - but you can't use focus and the camera's terrible"
-i think he doesn't like it because the focus mode is the only good point about the game.....oh yeah, and the camera. Although i received a distinct feeling from this comment and review overall that these faults don't matter because IT'S THE MATRIX!!!11!!1!1
quote: "some of the best bits involve covering your mates with sniper fire - they aren't too bright"
-I liked this unintentional mention of the crappy AI...
a stupid quote: "instead of playing some half-arsed conversion of the action in the film...."
-what? you play ETM instead of that, or-wait, those are the same thing!
another stupid quote: "some of the coolest action happens in the cut-scenes leaving you wondering why you couldn't have done it yourself"
-strange, i thought the reason for that would be that a control system relying on only a couple of context-sensitive buttons wouldn't allow you to do that, and even if it let you do it, it wouldn't be you doing it -much like the rest of the game, it'd just be you pressing one button for another context-sensitive effect.
really stupid quote: "the controls are fiddly at first...."
-i thought that was cos they're crap, oh wait, here's the reason for it:
"...that's because you've got so many options"
-oh, now it all makes perfect sense!
oh, and this: "the [control] system's as intuitive as possible"
-*cough*
"it's a shame they didn't include more third-person action..."
-why? so then we'd all kill ourselves?
and one last quote OF THE MONTH (found in the 'gameplay' colomn):
"there's so much variety you wonder why they bothered with they driving and flying"
-This review, in my opinion, is one of the worst i've ever read, and was littered with many more quotes and reasons like the ones above. The fact that they mentioned a lot of the games faults but then didn't take any of them into account annoyed me quite a lot.
Oh, and in case you're wondering they gave ETM 87%....i'll let you work out what that score would be in Edge...
