If you're playing on a HDTV then yes, it happens on nearly all SD games. I've only got one Wii game that fills the screen properly (Super Mario Galaxy) and none of my PS2 games fill the screen via component even in prog scan mode. It's all to do with the game's native output resolution and your TV then having to upscale it - you'll notice some games have bigger borders than others (Ghost Squad has tiny borders, Metroid PRime 3 has MASSIVE ones).

Wii actually does a really good job with progressive scan games, much better than that of PS2. Stuff like TR Anniversary on PS2 in progressive was a nightmare, gigantic borders.

Maybe it depends on your TV but I think the component output on the Wii is shat. All the prog scan games I have on the PS2 (Shadow of the Colossus, Guitar Hero II / 80s and God of War) look pin-sharp whereas the Wii always looks a little blurry and I can never seem to get the right mix between contrast and brightness with it.

I found the same MattyD, and the Dreamcast via VGA into a HDTV really shows the lot of them up.

Component for me is crap apart XBOX 360. I wish there is a HDMI upscaled Wii console available to buy
