    What happened to bits..

Probably a naive question, but i really don't know. I know they're may of been others but i think everyone knows it went 8 bit 16 bit 32 bit 64 bit 128 bit. May i ask what has changed..

Sorry if i look a bit stupid asking this.

Not stupid at all. I'm not too sure either. It seems bits have become unimportant in favour of actual processor speeds and the suchlike now.

i thought you meant the tv show. but yeah, skull commander is correct, after 32bits, it is not the most important factor in the power of a console, so it became less emphasised in marketing etc after that point.

technically is not the 360 32bit due to the processor being a 32bit cpu

Surely we're in the 256bit phase of gaming now? How many channel sound now, though?

We are in the 256 bit, indeed. But I think it would get silly if we kept going with bits, like in the future we'd have to say 1024bit or whatever.

I am curious how they're going to classify each generation in the future when they reach retro status..?

                            eh?

The bittage is usually decided by the CPU's address bus width. Some people mistakenly use the GPU for some reason.

edit: bits was a great show \\o
