Nintendo have too much history in this industry. It's the same for Microsoft in the PC market. Have you noticed how Microsoft hasn't come in for nearly as much criticism over the XBox as it does for Windows?

Nintendo does seem to get a lot of stick. Whilst SMS and Wind Waker were never going to be revolutionary, they were still very good games and the very best of their respective genres.

SMS got particularly bad press everywhere and the old Edge forum had one particularly stupid thread devoted to nit-picking many of the so-calles 'bugs' in that game. Do you ever hear anyone nit-pick Vice City's bugs?

Edge's GC Equip mag was also guilty of perpetuating the idea that Nintendo should throw away its identity and become another poor man's Sony (the general tone of the mag alluded to this). I was shocked this came from Edge to be honest and its 'appraisal' of Wind Waker was completely unecessary and made no real point.

All I can say is that since getting my Cube, the PS2 barely gets switched on. There are tons of very solid titles and the future is looking good. And no, Nintendo will not 'do a Sega'.

It does seem fashionable to slate Nintendo though and its getting tiresome. Some gamers really don't know a good thing when they have it. If Nintendo was to die, the whole industry would feel it.

There was a thread for moaning about Vice City's bugs as well, although the SMS thread was a loop of this lot:

"I fell through the floor of the boat in Pinna Park!",
"I fell through a floor somewhere else!",
"The camera behind the ferris wheel was awful",
        ...and lots of...
"I'm just incapable of using the camera!"

My cube is my most played console right now - I've got three games on the go (Viewtiful Joe, F-Zero GX and Mario Golf) and all are first rate. That said my favourite games of this generation (Halo, Kotor) are both on the XBox. However I think the cube (if your an importer) has got the best overall lineup - at least for me

So all that given, the only thing I'd really knock Nintendo though is there god awful treatment of Europe - late, late releases (if at all) and now clamping down on importers. If I had a UK console what would I be playing right now - nothing thats what.

I have to agree, especially when the same people heap praise on the camera of Super Mario 64.

I have just never understood it - I even went back to Super Mario 64 to see if I was missing something, but it is clunky and completely inferior to the SMS version.

The only problem in SMS is that there is a lot of scenery to get in the way of the camera - in SM64 because the levels are so much sparser there is none.

Do you think some people don't realise that when the camera stops moving with the c stick its because it has bumped into an object, and you just have to zoom in or out a little to be able to continue moving it?

Possibly, but you'd have to be pretty dumb not to just push forwards or backwards!

I have to agree aswell, the camera feels just so much better than the one in Mario64.

The critiscms about the game's linearity are correct, but it's a solid and very playable game. It doesn't deserve the level of negativity it's received.

Sunshine was a fantastic game IMO. It was worth playing just for the retro levels, which were, to me, one of the finest platforming experiences I've had in years.

Stupidly tough, fantastic structural design and it looked great. And the remixed music was wonderful...brought a smile to my face

Maybe they can't admit they're having trouble with a 'kiddy' game? If I, and many others, can navigate through complicated sections like the cages in the harbor with no camera issues, it clearly is a skill-based issue. Personally I loved the freedom the camera offered, something as fast and instant in Ratchet and Clank would've been great.

And yeah, I don't understand why people like Matt Cassamassacassawhatever from IGN always harp on about how Nintendo should be making games like GTA or Halo either. They're Japanese, apart from MGS2 and the survival horror, what Japanese games are as violent as them? As others have said, they wouldn't be Nintendo and I find it sad that so-called gamers, think they should sacrifice their integrity in such a way. Can't people just discuss gameplay any more? It's so pathetic how 5 minutes after Donkey Konga was announced, places like GA were just whining on about how a platformer would've sold more.

My brother, who is in the interactive information medium (what ever that means!) went to a big wig Sony conference, he stood up and asked Head Honcho of Sony Entertainment why they havent made any new games, refering to Getaway, Rally, F1, etc etc etc, and the dude basically said, we dont have to, people are buying rehashed old games anyways.

I think the words innovation and creativety aren't in the Sony dictionary.
                              Ignoring the Eyetoy quite nicely...
