Flashback and Another World have really good animation when it comes to
      the charatcter's movement.

Doraemon: Nobita to Midori no Kyojinden DS

The animation is really detailed, shame sega don't take as much pride in their sonic games as they do in there doraemon ones.

Pretty obvious but I'd say Metal Slug too. The series is pretty much the standard to beat when it comes to sprite graphics, but the animation is also excellent, it really brought out the humour in the game.

I think this was one of the first games to use motion capture. At least, I remember them making a big ol' fuss about it at the time.

Maybe some adventure games deserve a mention here; Day of the Tentacle, Discworld 2, to name just two.

                      metal slug 3
viewpoint (although its pre rendered art as such)
                      art of fighting 3

I know they're ancient, but on the Commodore 64 - the golfer on Leaderboard and the way the protagonist runs on Impossible Mission still impress me to this day.

Obviously SF3, MOTW and MS3 all came to mind first but of cause they have all been mentioned along with Last Blade 2 and Art of Fighting 3.

                            Some less known/unmentioned:

Martial Masters on the PGM Rivals MOTW/SF3.
                            Demon Front Also PGM
Knights of Valor Games again PGM
                            Warzard
                            Jojo's Bizzare Adventure (CPS3)
                            Vampire Saviour

Neo Turf Masters always impressed me too, Daraku Tenshi Fallen angels is rather nice also.
