Setting up online for a US PS3 in the UK

I'm just about to set up my 80gb US PS3 that I've brought back from the Sates and wondered if there are any complications that I need to look out for.
Will I need to register under a US address or can I just set up a UK account? Also does anyone know if the service completely free?

Any advice on setting this up would be much appreciated as its the first time I've taken any console online!

You can just setup a UK account (though most of us seem to have both UK and US accounts setup)

You can't choose which firmware, it does it automatically.

Ok cool thanks Kernow so one final question then

Setting up a UK account and letting it download a UK firmware won't brick or remove/change any features (ie backwards compatibility, blue ray region etc) from my US 80gb?

Hi Jurassic,

I have a US 60gb PS3 and have downloaded the UK firmware fine, the only thing you have to be aware of is that bluray playback will still be limited to US bluray and region free bluray, so anything that is specifically coded to UK bluray wont work.

Of course the games still remain region free...

Nice one emissary thanks for that! Just wanted to make sure as I've just bought a load of US blue rays and didn't want them to suddenly stop working. Cheers for the help.
