I still haven't bought and would prefer th USA machine which I assume has the bettter picture?

Er, both USA and JPN machines are technically identical so neither has a better 'picture'. The advantage of having a US machine is being able to play all the games in English, obviously. Hence the Japanese one going for a lower price (not to mention the fear of the general n00b public when it comes to exotic electronics).

My man in Japan got me a brand new one off the shelves just before Christmas for about £110. Not trying to willy-wave or anything, but missing out on a second hand one for £93 isn't anything worth losing any sleep over.
