    Bizarre and unknown games [updated]

I'm in the process of making a website showcasing a few of the unknown and weird games for the super famicom. A couple of games I stumbled apon below

    Bakuto Dochers

This game is pretty much a clone of bomberman, except replace bombs with frisbees and you have an awesome combination

There are some insane powerups which cause you to run around the arena at rocket speed. Couple that with the fact the frisbees are almost homing and follow you round corners and you find yourself running around like a mad man. Unlike bomberman tho you have an energy bar so you can take quite a few hits until you die, although it is possible to kill people in one go by forcing them down random holes which fall off the level.

    Kingyo Chuiho Tobidase! Game Gakuen

This game is a "party" game, very similar to Bishi Bashi Special on the playstation, choose your characters then fight it out with them over a range of bizarre mini games. Each player takes it in turn to choose a random game from roulette style selection.

In this mini game, the object is to pick up what the tide washes in. The tide will come in then leave and deposit a number of things picking up shells gets you points, you can pick up beach balls and then throw them at the other players to make them loose points. If your too slow tho the tide will come back and wash you out to see and you miss a turn.

Unfortunately there are a few games where you need some knowledge of the japanese language, the dreaded trivia quiz. Although you can buzz in at anything and randomly guess which seems to be all the computer does anyway.

There is also the predictable simplistic shoot-em-up. Although you do seem to get the same games pretty often there are actually quite a lot to choose from dictated by japanese symbols in the roulette spin.

    Motoko chan no Wonder Kitchen

This is a strange one, its pretty simplistic move the cursor over items and click on them and see what happens. The object of the game is to collect certain objects and items of food but everything about it is very obsceure. For instance click on the plate on the table and it turns into a group of dwarfs who then dance and bounce around the room.

There are many different locations you can get to, a pirate ship, the bottom of the sea. There is also a witch hiding in the cupboard under the sink with whom you can play a puzzle game.

I'm slowly gathering quite a collection of unknown/bizzare games but if anyone else has stumbled across a few SFC/Snes gems or has some suggestions or even opinions on these, then post away

Cool, thanks very much for sharing those with us ntsc-ukers. The SFC has a wealth of obscure and downright odd (to own culture) games.. Any more where those came from?

Due to request here are some more, enjoy

        Gourmet Sentai Bara Yarou

This is your standard final fight/battletoads type game, but a damn good one at that It has some of the smoothest and weirdest animation I have seen on the snes. In the final picture you can see some weird robotic face type thing, well when you kill this a tiny little guy jumps from the wreckage and jumps on your shoulders trying to stamp on your head You won't find that in final fight.

Cho Aniki - Bakuretsu Rantou Hen

This has to be one of the strangest fighting games I have ever played on the snes, it is extremely camp just look at the pictures. Characters include a bloke in a pink clothes who prances about sprinkling fairy dust, an aircraft/women with 3 small dancing naked men on her back and a bloke whos main attack is to pose.

If you can look past some of the characters and backgrounds, then you'll find this is actually a good enjoyable fighting game, with a wide range range of special moves.

Has anyone had a chance to play any of these games yet, what do you think ? know of some I may have overlooked or games for other systems then post

I'm sure www.somethingawful.com did a Rom Pit review of that game!

            Them semi-naked men are scary!

            EDIT:: Yay, it's here

There are similar games on the Playstation, PC Engine and Saturn... funnily enough NCS (Masiya) didn't do a version on the Megadrive, which I sure says something about Megadrive owners. :P

Strangely there is a PS2 Update on the way, not sure that will get a UK release

OMG! Upcoming PS2 release here: http://www.play-asia.com/paos-13-70cdd01b.html

Choaniki: Sei Naru Protein Densetsu, or translated (by me, so probably wrong) as "Profitable Brother - Legend of being Sex Protein"

Less I say about that..the better.

with the actual kanji characters it's something more like "Super Big Brother: Holy Protein Legend"... which doesn't make it less bizzare though.

also have a look at http://www.chouaniki.com/ (in Japanese) with the complete history of the series. didn't know it also came out on the WS (as a Card-Battle RPG).

and the official site for the new PS2 title: http://www.gae.co.jp/game/choaniki/index.html

btw, wonderkitchen (released by/for Ajinomoto, producer of food additives) and gourmet sentai are also two of the rarest titles for SFC with prices of up to 10.000 Yen (GBP 50+) in Akihabara.

actually most of them don't... i think. heaps of dating sims are still released for dc and ps2. dunno. try any of the "pia carrot" series maybe. or just google for gyaruge- (ギャルゲー, jap. for dating sims etc.).
