What component cable should I get for ps2?

I thought I'd ask the opinion of the knowledgeable folks on this forum as I'm a bit clueless when it comes to cables. I got a 32" LG hdtv about 6 months ago and have been enjoying the xbox 360 display through component ever since, needless to say it made a huge difference from the scart on a standard tv I had used before. I'd like to revisit some of my ps2 games, especially some US RPG's, and as I only have a scart lead I was wondering what would be a good cable to get the best display out of the ps2 on my hdtv. I've been looking around on ebay and there are some cheap component cables but I don't know if they are of poor quality or not. There are some component leads that can be used with wii and ps2/ps3, are these any good as I don't yet have a lead for my wii either? Also some of the games (especially the US ones) seems to have a progressive scan option, which lead would allow me to get the best out of this even if I am using a PAL system with swapmagic to run the US games (does this make any difference?)? There is this hdtv exploder thing as well that I have come across, the reviews don't seem to be too great but is the included cable up to the job of doing what I want?
Thanks a lot for your help

Thanks for your help Zero9x. I might well order that, especially as it seems that these official cables are getting harder to find nowadays

Yeah it is. I'm almost positive that all the video cables that work on one Playstation will work on all 3 (except component for PS1).

Correct - that's why it's worth looking out for PSOne/PS2cables as they'll often be sold cheaper than those marked specifically for the PS3. Just before most of that stuff disappeared from GAME they were selling PSOne gold plated RGB SCART cables for under ?5. Their PS3 version of the same thing was almost three times the price last time I looked (?14.99).

BTW thanks Zero9X for that link to cduniverse. I've been meaning to buy a Sony official PS2/PS3 component cable for ages but either it has been out of stock or ?25+. I actually lost out in an ebay auction earlier today for a used one which actually turned out to be a good thing. Even with shipping/import costs, the cduniverse one I've just ordered will work out ?2 cheaper than the winning bid.

I have a cheap and nasty Game own-brand one that cost about £8 and it does the trick just fine.

No worries guys. Ive always had problems with store-own cable brands, its either inferior quality or cheapness. I tend to go for official brands or well insulated types.

RGB scart leads from Game/EB back in the psone era were never genuine RGB so ive always avoided them.

You can argue about the build quality and shielding (although I never had any trouble in that respect myself) but all the GAME/EB ones I bought marked RGB SCART were fine. Definitely full RGB; Maybe very early in the PS's life they did sell some composite only SCARTs but I really can't think why they would have done that even then.

They are probably alright now, but back then i had to get an rgb scart for my very first import and i kept getting rubbish picture and it was in black & white. Like you said they were composite.

Sounds like the one you bought was most likely just wired up wrongly (something we've talked about here quite often). Unless there's some PAL/NTSC format issue there's no other way that I know you can get a b/w only image from a correctly wired SCART.
