    GTA dlc speculation

been chatting about this with a colleague so though I'd start a thread for some speculation, wants and thoughts outside of the first play.

on talking about it you realise what a tricky proposition it may be. bearing in mind the effort needed to finish the game only a small percentage of players will see thru to the end, thus meaning a few more side missions with Niko isn't really something many people need to pay for as they already have lots more Niko content still to see for the first time.

a few new cars, boats, weapons or copters don't add much either so no real need for that.

the other problem with Niko is that any new dlc can't presume people have finished the game so needs to fit in with whats going on for everybody, not just those who've finished it, certain story threads at certain times have a big impact on the game world.

this led us to concude the most obvious way to go is to stick new characters in Liberty or take existing ones (like Brucie, Jacob etc) and have new chapters based around them.

the dlc needs to be compelling enough to get people who haven't necessarily finished it to cough up whats bound to be a fairly hefty price, and in such a big game many may not feel the need for more content when they've already got loads of it still to wade thru.

One thing they could do is give more interiors - missions like the hospital one for example.

Apart from that there are loads of locations they could base missions. I think the missions will come from existing characters or new ones like you say.

Maybe they could have more vigilante style missions as well.

Under that presumption, it would have to only include characters in the earlier part of the game though, as like you say - you can't presume everyone has gone through the standard story.

I would imagine it will be a new map - with some follow on story... I think it's fair to say R* will assume completion of the story from the majority - and in any case, they can check the stats to see how many have, and make a decision based on that...

Now what would be good, would be to play the game, but through the eyes of another character - i.e. play the game as Roman or possibly one of Nico's enemies!!

I'm guessing it'll be some kind of Liberty City Stories scenario, maybe with some tweaks to the city to set it a few years before GTA IV and with one of GTA IV's fringe characters as the main character. Someone who has an established criminal element in the main game (Vlad? Jacob? Faustin?), so that it can show their rise.

Bring in some new vehicles like tanks and maybe ten hours of gameplay and it sounds like something they'd sell for ?25-30.

I stick by my guns that the vast majority of people will not finish this, its too big, so the dlc will not follow on at all. I suspect something like 75% of players if not more won't see the end credits.

I hadn't considered the idea of prequel with characters we see in the game, think that's a pretty neat idea.

My original question though is still how to they make it a big enough sell to get people buying it when most people still have unplayed content in the full game and a few more drivey shooty missions aren't gonna get people into their wallets ?

I wonder what attach rates they need to make it worthwhile as well.

I've never managed to stick out a GTA game to the end before, but the improved aiming system and friendlier difficulty allowed me to get this game done. (45 hours.)

Maybe others will find the same, and a higher number will finish?

Do rockstar publish that info, now that Live could report gamerpoints?

Maybe one of the XBL fansites could do a check on GTA players vs GTA players with the endgame achievement?
