Wii gives me a headache :-(

    Does anyone else find this???

Bit strange I know but I suffer regularly from Migraines & I find that the effort involved in controlling the games with the Wiimote jars my head & causes me to have some truely horrendous headaches

I notice it mainly with No More Heroes & Manhunt 2 & if I play either for anything over an hour I can pretty much write off the rest of the day because they get pretty bad

I originally thought the first few times were just down to bad luck but now it's pretty much every session

So am I the only one that's suceptable (sp??) to this kind of thing??

I don't suffer from this, and i'm sorry to hear it's a big problem.
Try some of these things to see if it helps at all:

Get your eyes checked out at the opticians.
Drink water frequently and always keep a fresh glass of it next to you.
Take frequent breaks every 15 or 30 min's.
Sit further from the TV or play on a smaller one.
Always play in a well lit room.

If problems persist then you should see the doctor in-case you suffer from a medical or health problem that is helped appear by playing games. (It may sound like i'm writing exactly what a health warning says, but you must take these steps in order to hopefully cure you of such problems.)

You could also make a list of which games effect you and see if there's a relation. Maybe fast-paced games effect you worse than slow paced ones; the amount of colours on-screen; the fps of the game; camera perspective etc.

Just sell it, or throw it out the closest open window, it'd be more fun than actually turning it on, my wii has been sat in standby for about 6 months. I think I had more fun with the gamecube. Yes, I did actually, no question about it.

The Wii does give me a fair bit of strain too, could be because I'm forced to sit a fair bit away from the screen (my TV is 10 years old, not as bright as it was and too many games have no gamma correction) but I find it hard to play solidly for more than 90 minutes.

Zelda and MP3 stand out to me as games I enjoyed playing but couldn't play for a lengthy period.

Usually I'm fine with gaming and have had more than a few 4-5 hour sessions on WoW

No worries I do understand what your getting at & I do try to adhere to alot of that (Well except maybe the 15 minute bit )

As for games it's the ones that involve waving the wiimote about or jerky movements with it Mario Vs Sonic at the Olympic games is another one & to be honest I've stopped playing that completley now because of it.

I dont get the same issue with other games or systems I can play things like Madden '08, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto 4 on the 360 for hours & not experience the same problem.
Even my 2D Fighters & Cave Shooters on the PS2 are fine & I'd have expected if it was eyesight related the bullet Hell shooters would have triggered it off as well.

To be honest though I do get the same sort of problem with First Person Shooters, the quick movements in that give me the same problem so could be something there.

I may well go to the Dr's if it does persist too much longer though as it's a right pain becuase I'm just getting into No More Heroes & having to stop playing because I can feel a headache brewing is a nuisance.

Thanks for the help though Malc.

            Lol @ Kernow,

The other half would kill me if I got rid of the Wii she's seriously addicted to it, plays Paper Mario & Mario Galaxy all the flaming time...which is why I'm only just now playing No More Heroes

Sounds like motion sickness to me. I get it very badly or did until 360 and PS3 for console gaming as anything with fast blurry bitmap textures on FPS etc.. would do it and inconsistent frame rates. I get it on a few Wii games as well but for me I put it down to the blurry texturing (I even got it on Mario kart at first on Wii till I learnt the tracks). Ive had it for years and will puke when its too bad and I take buccastem for it. I rarely get it on 360/PS3 games and not had it on PC for years (ie wolfy and doom etc...) I think the last 360 game to give us it was timeshock. When its bad it also triggers my blinding migranes.

Some tricks to try are either lights on or off (ie if off make as dark as possible) I find I get it less in a pitch black room and I make sure Ive got the fan on to keep me cold (but have that on all time with being ill anyway). Unfortunetly you just learn not to go near those games that give you it

I get motion-sickness when playing various FPSs & I recently tried Condemned 2 on the PS3 & the bobbing from side to side made me feel funny after 5 minutes or so. Thankfully Half Life 2 is OK. I did try & play Boom Blox a while ago when I had a mild headache & boy was that a mistake. The headache increased in intensity after a few minutes, so I learned my lesson there.

Blimey didnt realise it could really be motion sickness.

I dont get anything like this when driving or being a passenger so didnt expect it to happen with gaming but it appears it does & it isnt that uncommon.

Glider, I've learnt to never ever play any games when I have even a slight headache...because it's bound to just kick it into a humdinger if I do

I havent played an FPS in ages because of this problem & I do miss them I used to enjoy the odd game of Unreal Tournament.

So aside from playing the Wii less is there anything that can be done to help with this condition apart from what Dazzyman mentioned, seems a shame to miss out because it makes me ill

Anyway thanks for everything NTSC Dr's

Take travel sickness tablets before playing?!
