    DS RPGs

This thread is designed to have a dual role. Firstly i've been hankering for some non-Final Fantasy DS RPG, and I know theres plentiful in supply. Thing is I dont know where to start, so I was hoping you lot could point me in the direction of of some good'uns and we could expand the thread by talking about em.

    cheers!

heh sorry Shozuki, the ps1 rpg thread inspired me to start looking as well but on ds and it seemed to fit so well.
anyway dont know about them being in plentiful supply on the ds but im sure there must be something non ff related around that ive overlooked. thanks

The mighty Chrono Trigger is coming to the DS soon, so you'd probably be better off waiting for that. Otherwise, you probably can't go wrong with The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass and/or The World Ends With You.

yeah got phantom hourglass of course, but dont really think of that as an rpg.

i had actually forgotten about the world ends with you, i must pick it up sometime.

in terms of titles coming, im looking forward to rhapsody and world destruction but im wondering what there is atm (something non-square if anything exists?)

            Of course! (*slaps forehead*)

How the hell did I forget the Sonic RPG? I only went and bloody played a pre-release demo of it at the Wii Flat in Central London last month!

              Pokémon!

Also, if you include GBA games too, there's zillions of great RPGs

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.

Playing it right now and really enjoying it. Some day I may play the prequel which was released on the GBA.

People here really don't know their DS RPG's. Here goes with all the non FF one's, games in bold I highly recommend.

Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass
Tao's Adventure: Curse of the Demon Seal (Konami dungeon RPG not bad)
Etrian Odyssey (FPS dungeon explorer RPG's, second one just out in the USA)
Luminous ARC (Great tactical RPG game, have really enjoyed playing it)
Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth Remix (Port of the PS1 RPG)
The World Ends With You (Great RPG)
Children of Mana (Not bad not great)
Dragon's Quest Rocket Slime (Borderline RPG, but a great action game)
Heroes of Mana (RTS quite good so long as you buy it not expecting a normal mana game)
Rondo of Swords (Good tactic's game)
Orc's & Elves (Really good Hexen style RPG)
                  Magical Starsign (Great RPG)
                  Contact (Interesting little RPG)
Mega Man Star Force (Battle network games for the DS really good)
Spectrobes (Pokemon in space, not that good)
Dragon's Quest Monster Joker (Pokemon in the DQ world)
Deep Labyrinth (Eye of the Beholder style RPG)
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (Nintendo goodness)
Dungeon Explorer (Haven't yet played it)

Any of the Pokemon games, especially the Mystery Dungeons one's.

Rune Factory, though I recommend it too much, and it's out in English now.

Or if you don't mind some Japanese:
                    Super Robot Taisen W
Mugen on Frontier: SRW OG Saga
                    Rune Factory 2

The DS is probably the best portable ever for RPGs, lots of quality and a good range of types.

Would reccomend The World Ends With You as it's probably the most original and distinctive RPG on the system

Really? I love RPGs but there's so little on the DS that I want to play/have played, until all the Dragon Quest remakes come out. It's all roguelikes or dungeon crawlers and average-at-best strategy RPGs.

The PSP is actually better for RPGs than the DS, for now! The DS is certainly nowhere near the quality of the GBA.

^I know you weren't after roguelikes but Mystery Dungeon: Shiren The Wanderer is only £4.99 in GAME's current sale. It looked a bit cack but I bought it as a gamble last week and it's good stuff, very compulsive.

I'd definitely recommend TWEWY. I'm playing it at the moment - it's an amazing game and one of the freshest RPGs I've played in years.

Contact was a pretty decent game. It wasn't perfect, but it's definitely worth a play, IMO as it's quite quirky and interesting.

The world ends with you is brilliant. A breath of fresh air in a guff-filled genre.
