    Xbox Live Auto Renew! Grrrr

Ragin! My Live was due for renewal a few days ago on a card I knew had expired which I was fine with as I wanted to buy a code for cheap on the net which loads of you do now.

But first I had a 1 month trial from GTA which I used, but had to put in valid card details for first of all in order to use it. So I do that, register the 1 month trial, and get an email confirming, then two minutes later get an email confirming I've also renewed it for a year after the trial is up!

Not at one point did I agree to that or press any buttons to authorize ?40 to be charged! Is this always how they work it, the scamming bastards? Can I cancel it?

You can only cancel it by phone - I had the same problem. It's a big reason I do not use Live anymore. Even when you cancel, they keep your card details - is this legal?

Unfortunately you will loose the remaining months left on your Live, with no refund. So you'd be best cancelling in 11 months time.

You can phone up to get the details removed but as you'll see from this thread, it's not exactly straight forward.

The golden rule seems to be never, ever give your CC details to MS. Although that's a bit late for Rossco now

It's a shame they don't do the same as they do with the creator's club/xna sub. You can cancel at any time and they will refund you for the time you haven't used. I phoned them up a few days before it was due to auto renew and I received 53p back.

Sorry to bust in on your thread here Rossco but while I'm posting, can anyone here do me a favour and check something?

If you've registered a credit card for Live and since paid for a renewal subscription on a pre-paid card instead (before your credit card has expired) what does it say under your dashboard when you go to memberships? Does it list the CC details you registered or not?

I knew what was coming as soon as I read the title of this thread!

If I was to use Live again I would never let them have my card details after the crap I had from them. It took me months of pissing around with various people in the company before I managed to get it sorted.

It still pisses me off just thinking about it now, the whole sorry affair is in one of the other threads dealing with this same issue. So many people seem to have problems with this and I just don't understand how they manage to get away with it.

but it said, you must provide card details in order to use the 1 month trial card!?

Did I have another option as it seemed I had to put the details in.

I've never put CC details anywhere and I've used numerous 1 month trial cards :O

Yep, you can even use the trial cards on xbox.com and it doesn't ask for a CC.

Its a nightmare trying to remove cards and details from live. After about 6 phonecalls and being told 30 days etc. In the end I just changed banks.
Funny thing is if i got onto the xbox web page my profile is still there.

just had a quick look and all my card details are still there!

Is that under your dashboard view for memberships as well huxley?

                        If no one else replies...

I've been a silver member for a couple of years, so this may not be valid. I used a credit card to buy MS points and had the card registered a long time. I only ever used prepaid cards for Live subs. I have since cancelled my Gold membership by phone and there are no payment options under account management.

                          Anyone else? Anyone? Bueller?

Mine just says prepaid and there is no mention of any of the 5 cards I have registered over the years.
It looks like I physically have to change my payment method to one of those cards in order for it to auto renew
