HORI Real Arcade Pro 3 Modifications *HELP*

    Hi

I got a HORI REAL ARCADE PRO 3 and wanted to know where I could possibly get it modified?

I would like the Hori Buttons to be replaced with Sanwa buttons and if possible to also have the PS2 PCB wired inside so I can use the Arcade Stick on my PS2

    Many Thanks in advance

    Hi mate.

They are snap in buttons, so should be easy to just change them over for Sanwa ones. Would you want it to run on the PS3 aswell, after adding the PS2 board?

You will be greeted by this wondering wiring monstrosity that is the heart and soul of the HRAP3. You will need a standard Phillips screwdriver to take off the back screws on the metal panel and a 7 mm nut driver works best on removing the top panel from the plastic casing. You?ll notice that each button has it?s own pair of color coded wiring that are connected with quick disconnects. This makes for worry free and solder-less button swapping. You may need to use pliers to remove the quick disconnect plugs as they are fastened on pretty tight. All you have to do is unplug the quick disconnect that is plugged into the button and then depress the tabs around the buttons and pop them out of place. Then put the new button you want to put in and just plug the wires back in. Easy as that! Changing the balltop to a different color/style is easy as well. All you have to do is hold the bottom part of the stick with a Flathead screwdriver and simply unscrew the ball top off and replace it using the same method. If you want to change the entire stick mechanism, that will take more work and I?m certainly not going to help walk anyone through that! Just make sure you don?t lose any screws and close it back up tight if you decide to swap out any buttons or the stick.

www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk, for all your joystick-modding needs

Crikey, they don't call it the RAP for nothing, eh? Almost makes those long hours filing away at my DC stick futile...

If it is possible, I'd like to still have the PS3 USB but also the PS2 PCB wired inside with the controller cable and port next to the USB cable

So in other words, I would like to have this stick working for the PS2 as well as my PS3 already. I am going to Uni in a month so I don't have money to splash out on another stick so I would like to get it modded.

You'll need to read up on that. There's this thingy called ghost voltage or something, where the current will go through both the PS2 and PS3 circuits. I think all you need to do is wire in a toggle switch to switch between the ground wires for the PS2 and for PS3 circuits to stop this happening. I haven't tried it myself, though, but other have and it works fine apparently

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look into it though. My main focus is to get rid of this hideous Hori buttons and get some Sanwa on there!

Unless you are an arcade regualr, you h'ain't really gonna notice much difference between Hori and Sanwa Denshi buttons.
                    Kept you waiting, huh?

I just want to try get half assed good at 3rd strike , but i dont know if i should import the ps2 version, then get a real arcade pro for the ps2 which can then be easily adapted for the ps3...or just get the xbox 360 fighting stick..but that cant be used on anything else...god damn i hate gaming sometimes where you buy the game but then need an accessory to actually play proper etc., wheel, arcade stick or what not

i'd say get the RAP as you'll have a lot more potential games to use it with. i've got the DOA stick for my 360 as well, but it's in the attic and i'm seriously considering getting shot of it, not least because i've discovered ggpo and find it a decent alternative to xbox live. the only reason i'd be getting a 360 right now would be for sf2hf which i can live without and will just end up getting ssf2thd on ps3.

of course, you could use the 360 stick on the pc, but that's not what you wanted to hear

the only reason i'd lean towards xbox sf3 is because you can play it online and there are still people playing it even now (usually the numbers are small, but when a new sf game appears people boot it up and get arse-kicking. it happened when sf2hf came out), but if you're not bothered about that then i'd say just stick with the RAP and a ps2/3

                          Thanks for the info billy,

Thats kind of the way i was leaning, mainly due to what you mentioned in that with the ps2/ps3 stick ill get a lot more uses out of that one unit. The ps2 version of anniversary collection is only 13 quid inc p&p from VG+ so I might get that sent over and then look to buy the RAP.....getting hold of one tho seems just as annoying as the xbox stick

The number refers to the diameter, OSBF are standard snap in, N have a nut and RG are rigid, not really needed for home gaming. All japanese pushbuttons are a very basic design where a plunger connects a circuit. If you fancy something flatter look at Seimitsu.
