It's not just last 10 years Ono... after all, only 3 of those covers are for games in the last 10 years (Pokemon, Vib Ribbon and Super Metroid).

If it was gonna be a vector game, I would choose either Tempest or Star Wars. Or Elite, but that's in a different catagory presumably...

Personally I do agree with most of the choices, probably not 1942 though, it's a bit too boring and definitely not the best vertical scrolling shooter ever. I'd put Flying Shark, Ikaruga, Psyvariar, Xevious even above it...
Lie with passion and be forever damned...

          Are those covers legit?

Interesting that most of those games were released before Edge came into existence.

I hate it when Edge do this too. Got the two Playstation covers (issue 8?) and vowed never to buy multiples again.

Offensive, arrogant way to make more money.

hmm, maybe this is a weird wind up, or an over zealous fan then.

would have made more sense to have a game for each of Egde's ten years if they are going to have 10 covers.

All 10 of them look half arsed.

Shall I say it? ahh why not.

The content has been half arsed for the last 2 years finally they are choosing covers to complete the package.

It's a blatant attempt to force the 'hardcore' fans into buying 10 copies of the magazine IMO.

It's a nice idea to celebrate their birthday, but it's not very reasonable. Who is going to spend almost ?40 on 10 copies of the same magazine

It's all true. It's just a cynical ploy by Future to turn Edge into some uber-fantastic magazine 'brand'. The company appears to be boulderising itself for money purposes only (well, that's what the press release for this implied, anyway).

The artwork's cool, though. Even if the motives behind it stink a bit.

                          How different is the content?

If they had a good differnece in content... I'd do it... Just go all out! GO FOR IT!

                          But... I'm not totally sure!

Edge magazine enters new territory with ten collectors' covers
Future Games' flagship title Edge magazine will be celebrating its tenth birthday in September with a first for the games industry ? a unique line-up of ten different covers.

As part of its birthday celebrations, the magazine reveals the ten best games in each of the ten most important genres ? from adventure and puzzle to sports and strategy. Each cover reflects one of these different videogame genres, by appropriating the visual style of a specific game from each genre.

Commenting on Edge's anniversary issue, the magazine's publisher, James Binns, said:

"Since the magazine's launch in 1993, Edge has remained true to its original philosophy while evolving to accommodate momentous changes such as the launch of Sony's PlayStation. Edge continues to bring the latest, most exciting developments in the world of videogaming to a knowledgeable, highly demanding and dedicated audience of adult gamers."

"We've invested heavily in this promotion with a premium five-colour print bag and extra retail spend. We continue to invest in the Edge brand including sponsorship of the Edinburgh International Games Festival, recent specials such as Equip and Retro, and bonus supplements with the magazine. We look forward to another ten years of gaming."

The tenth anniversary issue of Edge goes on sale 4 September and has a cover price of ?4.
