Yup, it's looking very promising indeed. I like the fact that they're taking their time to ensure that everything is as perfect as possible - they're even testing the d-pad height to make sure it's 100% perfect.

I'd rather wait a little longer for the perfect machine than had it early and it end up being like the GP2X...as much as I love that console, the stick (and later the d-pad on the F200) was terrible.

It seems there has been setbacks in the case/mould production, so release is still a way off.

I did pre-order one though, so I hope they have the finances to get through what must be an awful time... Everything ready, all green lights & then let down on the case! Nightmare.

The recent "setbacks" are minor (and by recent I mean within the last day or so), they're to do with the finish on the case. The case is structurally perfect so the release won't be far off now. Certainly, the biggest issues with the case have been solved now.

I thought they had cracks in the hinges and actual issues with the holes in the case, rather than just colour or asthetics?

This is the the latest case, right?

I can live with colour isssues etc, but that hinge looks awful to me.

Or am I looking at the wrong photo?

Oh god the quality of that plastic...

To be honest, I think the pandora has about 3 months get released.

nVidia are pushing their Tegra platform hard, it's only a matter of time before a chinese manufacturer gets their hands on it.

It could be that they just used "Recycled" plastic for these mock ups, so I am still hopeful! It could be that the real deal will be a much better product, after mass production is tuned and the correct materials used. It is a bit worrying though.

The chinese can make as many Hi power MP4 players as they like, but I am buying Pandora for the controls & philosophy behind it. I still think it's unique and I am glad to support the project with my money. I can wait, and will wait as long as they need, I'm just a bit concerned that they can afford these delays.

That's an old image of the prototype case which had no finishing. They already showed better ones back in Jan, one with a comparison of older and newr versions. Somewhere in here -

Though, even with the improved casing, they're going to have to pull a few all nighters to make that Christmas '08 delivery...

                  Some great news!

It was down to the prototype runs being too short to "Tune" the process, so the mass produced cases should be good.

The Pandora team has "Green Lighted" the cases and mass production can start.

I really couldn't care less about what the plastic looks like, TBH. So long as the power is there and the controls are spot-on then it could be purple with green spots for all I care.

Not got mine yet, it's just devs who are getting theirs at the moment. Shouldn't be long now though as the factory in China is apparently pumping out the cases as we speak. Rest assured, I'll post stuff up when mine arrives

Is it just me or does that look proper ugly?

It does look ugly, but if ugly means it feel comfortable to hold for long periods of time and the controls feel right, then aces.

Hopefully it won't have issues like randomly bricking itself or the control pad being put in the wrong way round...
