Is that true? I know that's the case for all XBLA titles but didn't realise that was for retail titles too. What a silly thing to impose as standard.

Sounds about right, must have some sort of Live connectivity and Leaderboards are the easiest thing to do that forfills that criteria I would think.

I didn't realise it until now, but I agree, utterly stupid thing to force games to have. For a start it implies that every single game is somehow similar enough to warrant all having the same "thing" - online connectivity. It's like cars, they all have bloody 4 wheels (except Robin Reliants). I never see 5 or 6 or 7 wheeled cars, because there's this pseudo-belief of them all being the same.

I remember in the 1980s when many games tried to be utterly different to the next. <Dutch accent>Crazy times, crazy times.</Dutch accent>

Most games just track 'time to completion' to be honest. Never really been any issue for any of the devs I know. Takes an afternoon to set it up, at most. Players like stat tracking these days anyway, so its the sort of thing that would go in even if they didn't have to nowadays.

I'd expect the metrics being tracked in the next round of consoles to be far in excess of this though, everyone seems to like the way Zynga get realtime stat data on their players to tune their games (although Valve did it first, Zynga are best known for it). Be very surprised if that wasn't a standard feature in the next hardware round.

It hasn't actually shipped, its just cleared and ready to go, Game have done the same thing, but in actuality its still waiting to be put on the van, just sort of, in a higher state of readiness to avoid a massive pre order back log, will prob be shipped out today in all probability
