NAT type 2 is what you want anyway, the other types can give issues (Sound, not being able to host games etc...) so look on the bright side that you have something positive from it.

DNS is one of the biggest causes of issues on t'internet.

Cool. "NAT type 2" sounded foreboding lol, you'd think NAT type 1 would be what you want.

NAT Type 1 is completely unfirewalled, connected directly to modem. I don't think theres much difference in terms of service though. I enabled UPNP on the PS3/Router and they just negotiate what ports need to be opened and forwarded.

Anyone who has AOL as their ISP will not be able to connect to the PSN with the current dns settings, they seemingly know about the problem and are working on it. I have worked around it by using opendns for the time being.

Anyone having trouble connecting to the PSN lately? It was OK for me late Thursday evening after doing the firmware update & I checked out the new look store, but now I'm just getting DNS server error messages. Browser is OK as I've just downloaded the latest 1upshow.

Yeah mate, been having the DNS errors for the past few days. Been checking around a few forums and it definitely seems to have affected quite a few people.

Cheers - I'm glad (in a bad way) that it's not just me. I had this happen after the last update, but then it mysteriously just started working again. I guess there's nothing we can do except keep trying?

You do know some of PSN was down for maintenance recently? Online games worked but not other stuff. Could have been that.

I guess that was a few days ago though - before 2.5 came out

A maintenance PLAYSTATION Network is scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday 14 October 2008).

During this maintenance you can not connect to PLAYSTATION Network.
If you are connected before you should be able to play online without problem.
                      Thank you for your understanding.

Yeah I'm the same mate. I'm just gonna keep on trying until I (hopefully) get reconnected. Let me know if you get back on tho

Yeah, I'd read that. What's weird is my problems started the day the update was released, but I never actually got the chance to download it.

I seem to have had this on both the last updates and the only way I could solve it was to unplug the ethernet from back of PS3 and then replug it in again.
