Playr - BRAVO tv and PULSE sky 197

been watching this games show on Bravo for last few weeks, but didnt know if anyone else knew of it or watched it.

its on on saturday and sunday mornings at 11am repeated later in the day

basically its a magazine show with reviews, features and interviews (yesterday was based in lionhead's studio talking to Peter M (cant spell his name!) and his team about fable 2. its not amazing by any means but its actually a watchable show and is devoid of the patronising tone and irritating presenters of the videogame shows of our youth. no presenter just a voice.

its quite sarcastic at times, the nintendo feature and preview of wii music was hilarious!! forget rockband letting you play as metallica, wave your wiimote to the sound of twinkle twinkle little star.

its always followed by Play2 a more quickfire version of the main show with more previews.

    check it out.

while im on the subject has anyone seen PULSE channel 197 on sky? a game dedicated channel. usually featuring pro gamer tournaments (esports roundup) and random features. just watching a retro section featuring a sequel to Mike Tysons punch out on the nes : power punch 2 , where mike tyson fights aliens!! didnt even know about this. quote of the day " no one expects super mario galaxy gameplay from a boxing game but this is awful"

Playr is terrible. Even worse than GamerTV which was awful thanks to that blundering voice over muppet Steve Delaney.

They're shills of the highest order (high scoring reviews for footage and interviews), not as funny as they think they are, often get things wrong or incorrect, it's production values are terrible, it's choice of interviews sometimes very spurious (the head guy of Kikizo?! Seriously) and whoever dreamed up their budget title sequence and decided to use music that sounds like the Teddie Bears Picnic, should be given a slap.

The only good thing about the shows existence is the brief novelty of having a gaming programme on TV.

And yet despite all this, it's still better than Gamezville on Sky One ever was. I'll give it 1 G innit!

still like you say at least it is a game show on tv. better than nowt. admittedly the reviews are rubbish, but i actually found the interview with lionhead interesting. id rather watch a gaming show (no matter how low-rent) on a saturday morning with a fry up and hangover than some cookery show

by the way if you find the production values bad on playr, then probably best not to watch pulse tv. ever. lol!

I never thought I'd see anything worse than Gamezville, then I saw those 2 fat idiots on Pulse...

GamerTV was passable, Playr is slightly worse. But like we've said - it's a gaming show on TV so I watch it. There was a Mirror's Edge special on this morning with some footage I'd not seen before so it was worth watching.

The presenter on this show boils my piss, but I watch it, and sometimes enjoy it, because it presents game footage that I can watch lying on the sofa instead of hunched over this monitor.

Playr is utter ****e. Not worth watching.

Same goes for Pulse, which used to be xleague.tv. Presented by so called 'experts' who don't know **** and constantly spout rubbish.

i knew it wasnt just me that watches it! yeah its probably unwise to admit to this but theres not much alternative on tv - in my initial post i wasnt suggesting it was the greatest tv show on earth, but wondering if anyone else had the same guilty secret

pulse tv seems to have given up on the fat idiots and just shows 2hs of muay thai or yank hick motorsport every day.

must be hard to come up with game related content in the quiet 3 months before xmas.

Gamepad was nice and watchable. But then I find Violet Berlin's voice incredibly cute...

My advice - watch Playr and Playr2, but be wary of spoilers and turn the sound down. they've actually had some very nice features on new games - big playthroughs of sections of FarCry2 etc.

But the commentators - why? And they have this monotone idiot doing 'tutorial' style playthroughs.

The sarcastic commentator on Playr is Rufus Hound who is the best thing about it. Anyone who saw his performances on Thank God You're Here will know how funny he can be. Plus he is slightly posh and has an awesome 'tasche. I've seen him a few times in Brighton and he is hilarious.

Playr reminds me of Cybernet with a sarcastic Bristish presenter. It's no 1up Show or Consolevania, but I quite like it.

I should add that Hound's voice is missing from Playr2 and PlayrGuide and we get some dull yank who sounds scarily like Steve Truitt.
