    IGNorance

I used to live by the content of IGN, then I simply enjoyed reading it, then I kinda liked it, now...

What the hell has happened to IGN? I consider the scrutiny most video games journalism endures - every last word debated at length across forums, sofas and office desks; then I read the latest IGN article and simply can't understand their lack of self-respect.

Today, for the first time, I'm considering removing IGN from my bookmarks and not returning to their front page again. Not only is their latest review - Tron 2.0 - sloppily written, but it just hasn't been proof-read. Regardless of the accuracy of commentary, everyone knows from frickin' secondary school how costly spelling mistakes can be, and IGN act like they're farming the damn things.

I'm not just harping on to vent some steam (well, I am in that I was an IGN subscriber for a year), I just want someone to enlighten me as to any behind-the-scenes developments which could have caused this disaster. In its current state, IGN's like a beached whale which, the morbid intrigue having passed, I don't much feel like looking at anymore.

Well I'm an IGNsider, but I signed up strictly for their game movies, but even that's useless now. At E3, practically all they had up was the official trailers from the companies websites!

I'll probably cancel my account soon.

Look what I just found at IGN: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/434/434944p1.html
They're getting interns to edit their stuff for free.

        Also,
You must be able to read, write and speak English.

          And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain...

Funny enough I was thinking the same thing earlier today

I was looking at their site ( for the first time in ages ) and dug up a few scraps about Ninja Gaiden.

I took a look at one or two different articles and one of them ( might have been for Tron 2.0 or Half Life 2 - I forget) had lots of spelling mistakes in it

Now, I'm no master speller and will be the first to admit it, but if I were to put a review site on the net ( and expect people to pay for some of the content ) I'd try to do it proffesionally

Quite. NTSC-UK might not be as quick to put reviews up - but at least when we do they go through a good editorial process, and we don't even charge you for it

              Regards
              Marty

I go to IGN strictly for the pics, movies, and game guides (when all else fails). Sometimes their previews and reviews are interesting, but I'd nevr ever use them as my last word.

I read what I can that is unlocked, that looks interesting. On a whole their writing and gameplay vids are ****.

I hate the whole idea of subscribing to game info on the web. That's the exact opposite reason why I'm checking video game news on the internet.
Subscribe for a demo disc, but not news.

While we are ripping into them, am I the only one pissed about having to watch a Windows XP commericial so I can see a Jak II video. WTF?
That is the biggest crock of **** on the net. Do their subscribers only get the 10 second commercial.

They are greedy bastards and poor journalists to boot.

"The life on an intern is horrible."
Surely that should be "The life of an intern"

Yep IGN has been polluted by greed, gone are the free useful info and screenshots, now its wall to wall adverts and that sh!tty Insider thing, yeah like I want to pay those fools $5.95 a month to read a handful of badly written online articles... When I could just buy a copy of EDGE and... well never mind
