I've currently got 3 360's (2 UK & 1 Jp unit) as it's been my most played system by a mile over the past few years and i'm kinda lost if i left without one to play on (i've had 2 consoles red ring, one of which was a launch Elite).

Apparently Microsoft are still touting failure rates of 3-5% which falls into their "acceptable" range which we can all see is total BS from that graph.

      I'm on my 5th.

I'm also guilty of owning a backup machine.

Yeah have to say if the failure rates were really at 3-5% then the people who are on there second or more machines....if it was that failure rate that should never happen

Rather an appropriate time for such a thread, my PS3 has just stopped reading any PS3 game disks just 3 weeks after my Xbox red ringed on me.

If I didn't know any better, I'd swear God was trying to tell me to get out more

My first console did quite well, lasting for well over a year!!

The fact that that's a good thing says it all I guess... lol

I'm on my third 360 and I'm ashamed to say I have a backup console as well. Ridiculous really.

No problems with my Wii or PS3 however and (touch wood) none of my previous consoles have ever gone either.

incidentally perhaps it would've been worthwhile doing non-fatal faults. For example my Wii has developed an incredibly loud DVD drive (shoddy bearing?)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if you have problems with Wii drive noise, try starting the console up with the game disc already inserted. This cured the problem for me and I've been noise-free for 6 months!

I have had 2 360s go on me but my latest one seems to be going fine (touch wood). My wii is also going strong just like all my other nintendo hardware. My Spectrum 48k still works as does my Amiga 600, dreamcast, neogeo pocket color, atari lynx, ps1 etc etc. However my PS2 died about 4 years ago and I remember many problems with friends PS1s with the lasers dropping and then having to play the games with the console upside down. The 360 is clearly the worst consumer device I have ever heard of in regards to failiure rates however it seems more like a design problem than actual build quality.

Well just got a new 360 Elite (build date August 08) and it seems pretty quiet compared to the last two. Disc drive still sounds like a jet engine but the new dash should sort that out - fingers crossed.

Wasn't really sure where to post this as I know the article is well out of date now. Perhaps predictably, after this I no longer have a working PS3.

I found out when I was in work and as I'm a Continuos Play customer I phoned Sony but they wanted my policy number and I had no idea what the hell it was.

When I got home phoned their Continuos Play line which is Legal & General who after a couple of questions gave me the policy number, 10 minutes later I'd arranged with Sony to have a new one delivered by courier on Friday. They did offer to deliver on Thursday but I couldn't guarantee people would be in.

Now according to my sister, "nothing" happened to the console which isn't that surprising these days but I'm half expecting Sony to find that it's been packed full of Sugar Puffs or Hannah Montana toys when they open it.

Has anybody else had to claim using Continuos Play yet? It all seemed nice & simple and I have to admit that I'm happy to keep paying for the extra security as I don't really trust any of the consoles this generation, it's difficult to know what caused this problem to be honest but it looks to be in mint condition apart from the fact that nothing happens when I try to switch it on.

I recently backed up saves but I imagine that the hdd will need to be formatted when when installed so I decided to upgrade to a 500GB hdd for ?59:99 as I'm probably going to have to download everything again anyway. I'm sure that I won't need to upgrade the hdd again once I've got this one up and running.

I know several people who've used continuous play john (Jerec and Connavar over at the other place). It's painless, just like an extension of Sony's warranty really.

                              'other place' ?

I've used it when my first PS3 YLOD'd on me for no reason, it was utterly painless and hence I keep paying the monthly fees. Isn't this your 2nd one John?

3 different 360's 5 deaths. I'm sticking to my Wii now.
