My First Console

I played on several others back to the Megadrive, but I didn't get an actual console of my own until the Dreamcast. Trufax. Everyone gave me the usual "Why didn't you hold on for a PS2 it will open a portal into nirvana" spiel, and, well, then I'd fire up Soul Calibur and they'd generally shut up for quite some time.
Home computers, then yes, ZX81 with the dead flesh rubber keyboard. First game was Space Invaders, too. Ah, memories.

My first console was the Master System II with Alex Kidd built in. It came with the light gun and Operation Wolf. I reckon this was about 1989 maybe 1990. Previously it had been home computers all the way from an Acorn Electron, through a few Speccys and on to the C64.
The MS blew me away though. Even though the C64 was a mature platform by then and devs were getting great sound and graphics from it I could see the quality of design and playability of the console titles were far superior. Of course the joypad was a big factor in that as well.
Instant loading games seemed amazing. Tape loading seemed old hat and so slow. I had owned a few C64 carts but even they were really slow to load.
Simple things like games coming in a plastic box with a proper manual made the whole experience a step up from home computers.
Even though I've owned many other systems, both older and newer, since then the MS will always be looked back upon fondly as where the outrageous outlay started!

First console (and first computing related item too) was an Atari VCS for Xmas 1981, with Asteroids and The Empire Strikes Back (oh, and Combat too, natch, since it was included).
Got a C64 for Xmas 1983, which was probably when I really got in to games big time (the Atari carts having sky-high prices compared to tapes, so I only got carts for Xmas/Birthday presents).
It is a little scarey to think I've been gaming pretty much uninterrupted for 27 years
