Does the PS3 use an absurd amount of bandwidth?

Everytime my nephew plays CoD on his PS3 online, everything else online in the house slows to an utter crawl, as if I had 29 torrents downloading or something. It can't possibly need all that speed, is there some way to slow/cap it?

I've had to just kill my wireless for a bit while I do stuff but I feel mean.

Have you checked if its on NAT type 2? it might be because the ports aren't forwarded or mapped properly, and it would eat up the router for the same reason bittorrent does when its ports aren't forwarded correctly. I guess you could turn UPNP on instead of bothering to find out what ports to map, thats what I ended up doing when I got a new router.
