    Syndicate Wars - getting started?

I bought Syndicate Wars from the PSN and I'm trying to figure it out. So far, it has all been a bit chaotic. I can move all four guys at once and they open fire at people who attack me and I completed the first couple of missions doing that. But I didn't really have a handle on what I was doing.

So I read the instructions, which were fairly lean and then tried Gamefaqs. The FAQ there really just brought it home that I am, in fact, missing the basics. The walkthrough of the second mission, for example, points out a bunch of stuff. For me, it was 'walk around, kill people'. But even having that pointed out in an FAQ didn't really help me in the actual game itself.

So are there any Syndicate Wars fans here? Any tips for figuring out what I should really be doing? So far, I'm getting through it but I'm right in thinking it's not supposed to be total chaos, right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's all a bit hazy, but don't you have to "turn" people using mind-rays so that you end up with an army wondering around the map with you?

Or is this nothing like the old ones?

Well the version from PSN is the PS1 version so I guess this is one of the old ones! Yes, there's the Persuadertron which can bring people with you. I've done that a few times and the third mission requires it as a condition of completion.

I'm still getting through it but still in a state of chaos. Would love someone to give me some tips.

Only played Syndicate and Syndicate:American Revolt (both had a top down isometric view, Syndiacte wars was a 3d sequal). From what i can remember it was all about killing enemy agents, other Syndicate bosses and trying to "turn" civillian, scientists and even other agents to join your team. It also had a bit of a stratgey element, where you would have to choose what your scientists should send more time on reseaching and developing to use on futue missons. You were also able to control agents individually so they could concentrate on different parts of the missons or do whatever you want with them.
